Film shoots at all schools in Los Angeles have been banned after it emerged one of them was used as a set for a pornographic movie.

An investigation has revealed that 2012 X-rated movie 'Revenge of the Petites' was filmed at Alexander Hamilton High School in the Beverlywood area of western Los Angeles.

According to NBC4, the crew paid cash to film the scenes, including one in the school's parking lot for a car-wash scenario, which included public nudity.

This has prompted an outcry from parents - but embarrassed school officials say they were misled and would never have allowed the shoot if they had the known it was a pornographic film.

Now the Los Angeles Unified School District (LAUSD) has suspended any commercial filming at any of its campuses pending an investigation.

Head of the LAUSD Ramon Cortines said: 'It is important that we ensure teaching and learning are not disrupted and that all filming activity is appropriate for our schools.

'As an organisation responsible for educating students, it is essential that we hold ourselves and our schools to a high standard.'

Schools in the area around Hollywood are often hired by production companies for shoots, with the LAUSD bringing in $10million from filming over the past five years.

FilmL.A., an organisation that processes film shooting permits for studios, issued a statement on its website informing clients of the ban.

It said: 'At this time, the duration of the LAUSD filming hiatus is uncertain.

'If you were planning to film at an LAUSD school or property on or after October 9, 2015, please be advised that your request will not be approved.'

However, it added that it expected the ban would be lifted within the next week following an investigation and further talks.

Many schools in the Los Angeles and Hollywood area have been used as film sets, with the money paid going towards the upkeep of school facilities.

Alexander Hamilton High School had previously been used as a film set in the 1990s for the successful TV series Beverly Hills 90210.

Venice High School was famously featured as Rydell High School in the musical Grease, while Ulysses S. Grant High School was used in the film Clueless and the Ferris Bueller TV series.
