Amanda Bynes returns to fashion school after being kicked out of class last year

Amanda Bynes has returned to her studies at the Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising, according to TMZ.

Sources have told the website that the 29-year-old began class in Los Angeles on Thursday, and will be accompanied by a security guard on school grounds.

Amanda's re-entry comes after the website claimed last year that the actress was kicked out of the FIDM in Irvine, California, with one former classmate alleging she often turned up to class high on marijuana and paid some of her fellow students to do her homework for her.

Now, Amanda will be taking sketch classes at the private institute, and is living in Los Angeles on her own, the website adds.

The site adds Amanda is 'more focused' and is also receiving regular mental health therapy.

Amanda's return to school follows her re-entry onto Twitter following a five month hiatus.

The actress shared a snap of herself looking in good spirits beside designer friend Michael Costello in August.

'Me and the fabulous Michael Costello (I'm wearing one of his beautiful gowns) at the SOAR Los Angeles Gala!' she tweeted.

The former Nickelodeon star has been pulled out of her downward spiral after being hospitalized and put on a psychiatric hold in 2014 due to ongoing mental health issues.

While Amanda's mother Lynn told E! that her daughter did not suffer from any mental illness in 2014, TMZ quickly fired back with a detailed post insisting Amanda does.

'Everyone we spoke with stands firm - Amanda does suffer from Schizophrenia and Bipolarity. Beyond our sources, there's documented proof of mental illness,' insisted the website.

Amanda acted out of character after moving to New York City in September 2012 reportedly shoplifting, and scratching a woman inside a nightclub.

She also accused her father of molesting her on Twitter, but later apologized for the remarks.

Amanda has been making a gradual return to the public eye and on July 23 she attended her first public party since her meltdown.

Her mother Lynn has conservatorship over the star including her finances and medical needs since filing court documents in July 2013 in which Lynn described Amanda 'as a substantial risk to herself, to others and to property.'

Amanda was catapulted to stardom on the Nickelodeon series All That that debuted in 1994 and ran for 10 seasons before ending in 2005.

She then launched a successful movie career with roles in She's The Man opposite Channing Tatum, Hairspray and What A Girl Wants.

Amanda has yet to pick up her career and hasn't made a film since Easy A with Emma Stone in 2010.
