'I’m not afraid to say that I see a therapist regularly'
I’m looking forward to the future and hopefully having my own family and I’m not afraid to say now that I see a therapist regularly to talk things through and to start processing everything that I’ve been through
He’s made the move from council estate to chart-topper, and rapper Professor Green (real name Stephen Manderson) charts the full journey in his new autobiography Lucky.
He recalls being raised by his grandmother, surviving a near-fatal stabbing, dropping out of school at 14 and the suicide of his father - before stardom came calling and led to his high-profile marriage to Chelsea girl Millie Mackintosh.
After opening up about his relationship with his father, Professor Green talked about his own mental health issues, “When I get stressed, my anxiety gets worse and my hypochondria rears its ugly head so I’ve seen a lot of my doctor over the years… but that’s got a lot better. I’m looking forward to the future and hopefully having my own family and I’m not afraid to say now that I see a therapist regularly to talk things through."
Professor Green also told us he doesn't look to his "eternal optimist" wife Millie to solve his problems, "I think that would make for a bad relationship because then if anything was wrong and wasn’t fixed it’d be her fault, hence why I see a therapist. I don’t rely on Millie to counsel me."
