Their trip will take in Sydney, Canberra, Adelaide, Perth and Albany where they will mark the centenary of Gallipoli by visiting the new National Anzac Centre to view the point from which troop convoys departed.

The royal couple will also get a taste of regional life in the South Australian town of Tanunda, in the famous Barossa Valley, and celebrate the Prince's 67th birthday, November 14, with West Australian families at a barbecue at Cottesloe Beach in Perth.

The beach became an icon back in 1979 when bikini-clad Australian model Jane Priest ran up to the then-single prince, and gave him a cuddle and a peck on the cheek as he came out of the surf in his board shorts.

In Sydney, the Duchess of Cornwall will visit Oz Harvest, a charity which collects surplus food and redistributes it to charities which support the vulnerable.

The prince will also visit the National Museum in Canberra and in Perth hear about the efforts of the Western Australian Seed Technology Centre to preserve Western Australia's biodiversity.

Mr Turnbull has welcomed an announcement of the royal visit.

'Lucy and I will be delighted to welcome The Prince and Duchess and expect Australians will be eager to display our country's hospitality to the Royal couple,' he said in a statement on Wednesday.

Mr Turnbull said their activities will focus on areas that encompass Australia's community, culture and conservation.

Prince Charles' first visit to Australia took place in 1966 when he studied for two terms at Timbertop Geelong Grammar School at the age of 17, according to 9News
