Matt Damon puts his modern mansion on the market for $20m... after best friend Ben Affleck puts neighbouring home up for sale

When he relocated his family from the East Coast two years ago, Matt Damon knew exactly where he wanted to live - in the same neighbourhood as his best friend Ben Affleck.

But with Affleck's home on the market following the star's separation from wife Jennifer Garner, Matt Damon has also decided to sell up.

The Martian star is looking for a buyer for his modern mansion in the upscale Pacific Palisades area of Los Angeles.

The actor is hoping to make a tidy profit too, asking $20 million for the property he purchased for $15 million, according to Variety.

Damon and his family are planning to live in London while he films the new Jason Bourne movie with director Paul Greengrass.

His decision to offload the 9,000 square-foot contemporary mansion follows hot on the heels of his Affleck also listing his marital home.

The actor and his estranged wife Jennifer Garner, who've announced their intention to divorce, are asking $45 million for their three-acre estate that's just a stone's throw from Damon's place.

Damon's zen-themed palace sits on a half-acre corner lot behind a very tall box hedge.

When The Talented Mr. Ripley star bought it in early 2013, it had five bedrooms, plus two bedrooms for live-in staff, and nine bathrooms.

It's not known if he has redesigned the living space while he's been based there with wife Luciana Barroso and their four daughters.

The property, according to Variety, was designed in the mid-2000s as 'a cluster of interconnected glass, stone and wood pavilions that orbit around a central atrium with a soaring, 35-foot mahogany ceiling. '

It has formal dining and living rooms, an office, kitchen and family room, gym and a screening room.

There's also a swimming pool and a Koi pond in the landscaped garden.
