Justin Bieber puts on a brave face at the recording studio after ex-girlfriend Selena Gomez hints their relationship was 'seasonal'

Selena Gomez didn't hold back about the heartbreak he put her through in a recent interview.

But following his on/off girlfriend of three years hinting their relationship was something 'seasonal', Justin Bieber put on a brave face as he hit the recording studio in Los Angeles on Monday.

The 21-year-old pop was seen smiling and joking with a young fan as he left the luxury Bouchon bakery and restaurant in Beverly Hills before heading off to work on some music.

Stopping to talk to one of his fans passing by the eatery, Justin looked genuinely touched by the young girl's praise as he broke out into a broad grin.

Cutting a laid-back figure, the Baby hitmaker showed off his ever-growing collection of tattoos in a baggy white tee-shirt.

Teaming his top with a pair of Toronto Raptors basketball shorts, the Canadian chart-topper opted for comfort while showing his sporting allegiance to the team from his homeland.

Rounding off his laid-back outfit the star wore a black baseball cap over his platinum blonde locks, while he finished his casual look off with a pair of slip-on Vans skate shoes.

Following the encounter with one of his many Beliebers, the What Do You Mean singer headed back to a nearby recording studio.

His low-key outing came just hours after an interview with his former girlfriend Selena Gomez was published on Refinery29 - in which she gave a withering assessment of their relationship.

Speaking candidly to the fashion website, the 23-year-old pop princess briefly dissected and then dismissed their on/off relationship, which ended last year, as 'seasonal'.

While revealing that she has 'no anger' left towards the Believe singer since she received some closure from Justin last year, she explained that while they have seen each other she is over him.

'We've seen each other. I'm always encouraging and I am proud of his journey,' said the Spring Breakers star. 'I think people are making it out to be something that is more tragic than it really was. We grew up together. We both made mistakes. That's it.'

'Of course I was p***ed about it': Revealing that she has 'no anger' left towards the singer since she received some closure from him last year, she explained that while they have seen each other she is over Justin

However the Texan-born beauty admitted that Justin's actions during their relationship had left her hurt and furious, saying: 'Of course I got my heart broken. Of course I was p***ed about it.'

She added: 'I think there are people who have been in my life who are seasonal. Even people who I have dated have been just that. It's part of growing up.'

Selena's comments appear even more cutting as Justin had just revealed how much he valued their relationship during an interview in New Zealand.

Talking to the Mai Morning Crew on MaiFm Justin was asked what the best part of his teenage years were, to which he responded: 'Probably my relationship with my ex-girlfriend.'

The couple officially confirmed their romance in 2011 but split for the first time the following year; they subsequently reunited in 2013 before ending things for good in 2014.
