'Kim was edited out of The Hills': Spencer Pratt reveals how Kardashian organised Heidi's closet in failed bid to get on TV

She's the undisputed Queen of reality TV.

But there was nothing accidental about Kim Kardashian's rise to the top - with new revelations showing just how keen the young wannabe was to find fame.

According to Spencer Pratt, Kim used to come over to re-organise Heidi Montag's closet in a bid to appear on The Hills - but was edited out of the final cut.

'She used to call Heidi to organize Heidi’s closet,' he told Complex magazine. 'Kim was edited out of The Hills episodes organizing Heidi’s closet.'

And the former reality star, whose star has since faded, lamented their change in fortune: 'Now it’s like, "Kim Kardashian breaks the internet with her booty." Like, what the f***? That’s real life for us.'

While Kim - who back then claimed to be a stylist - did not make it onto The Hills she was still determined to try and make it as a reality star.

Spencer claims he saw first-hand Kim's mother Kris Jenner's excitement at the possibility of her daughter becoming a star.

'She can deny it if she wants, but she comes up to me and is like, "Spencer, I want you to manage Kim."'

And he says he wasn't tempted. 'I literally started laughing. What is this lady talking about?'

A Kardashian family representative denies that Spencer was asked to manage Kim - a role momager Kris took on herself with unrivaled success.

Spencer also reveals that Kim was keen to follow Heidi into the music business - a disastrous venture which ended up costing the now broke Mr and Mrs Pratt $3million of their realityshow fortune.

'Kim almost came out with a song,' he says of the now 34-year-old, who is married to rapper Kanye West.

Kim first received media attention due to her friendship with Paris Hilton, and was indeed seen cleaning out the heiress's closet The Simple Life.

She was also known as the step-sister of Brody Jenner, who dated The Hills star Lauren Conrad.

But it was the release of her sex tape with Ray J in 2003, and Ryan Seacrest's subsequent decision to sign her and her family up for a reality show, that catapulted Kim to fame.

As for Speidi, as they were collectively known by the gossip magazines, their fortune is now spent, and they live in a house owned by Spencer's father in a small California beach town.

It's a long way from their huge fame, with the two becoming stars during the four-year-run of the The Hills from May 2006 to July 2010.

For their feature with Complex magazine the former stars posed surrounded by front covers featuring them at the height of their notoriety.

Many are derogatory articles about the couple, who were cast as the bad guys on the show.

But that doesn't bother proud Spencer, who told Complex he wasn't annoyed by the covers.

'It’s like Messi—when he retires is he going to look at his trophies and be like, "Does that annoy me?"'

He also showed off his infamous crystal collection to the magazine - including the huge $75,000 rock which started it all off.

'This is supposed to be bringing in money, but I can tell you it doesn’t work,' he says. 'Citrine is supposed to bring wealth. I’m just waiting.'
