The 33-year-old prisoner, who was 19 at the time of the slaying, was pronounced dead at 6:31 pm CDT - 18 minutes after the lethal injection began. Escamilla became the 24th convicted killer executed this year in the United States. Texas has accounted for 12 of the executions.

A plane crashed into a mobile home Tuesday, killing both the pilot and a sleeping woman, according to reports. The victims were identified locally as 64-year-old pilot Dan Shalloway (bottom right) and 21-year-old Banny Galicia (top right), who was inside the home. The plane plunged from the sky at about 5:30 p.m. Tuesday into the Mar-Mak Colony Club, a palm-dotted community of about 100 trailers bordered on one side by a drive-in theater and home to many Spanish-speaking residents. The private plane was en route from Orlando to nearby Lantana, said Dan Boggs, an investigator with the National Transportation Safety Board, but what caused it to crash remained unknown. Shalloway co-founded Machine Gun America, which is located in Kissimmee, Florida.

Michael Cleveland (right) was taken to DeGraff Memorial Hospital in Buffalo, New York, after suffering a heart attack. The father-of-one was pronounced dead by Dr Gregory Perry. The doctor said that while it looked like Mr Cleveland was still breathing, he just 'had a lot of energy to expel from his body', a lawsuit claims. But Mr Cleveland's wife Tammy (left) realized her husband was still alive after he tried to hug her. According to legal documents, it was only on the fourth visit to the hospital room - 100 minutes after Mr Cleveland was declared dead - that Dr Perry checked the man's pulse and realized he was still alive. Mr Cleveland, 46, died later that morning from a punctured lung suffered during CPR.

A homeless pitbull has found a new home after a heart-warming video showing him make his own bed at an animal shelter went viral. Paul Thomas and Ashley White allegedly left their son, Noah, and six-month old daughter, Abigail, home alone in Dublin, Virginia, on March 22. The marine mammal recorded its journey through waters in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico after a team of divers attached a GoPro camera to its back and sent it on its merry way.
