The storyline for the show is reminiscent of the 1954 Bing Crosby movie White Christmas which also starred the Ocean's 11 stars aunt Rosemary Clooney as well as Danny Kaye.

In A Very Murray Christmas, Murray, 65, is at New York's Carlyle Hotel preparing for a live holiday broadcast.

However, a blizzard shuts down the production and so instead, he celebrates with his showbiz pals, hotel employees and anyone else who happens to drop by.

Coppola came up with the idea for the show and told People how she managed to get the star-studded cast together.

'It just started from wanting to see Bill sing and our fondness for those old Christmas specials that were on TV in the '70s and '80s,' she explained.

'Bill is friends with George, so that's how he came on. Then, we wanted a pop starlet. I had met Miley through Marc Jacobs and she seemed really game and nice, so I asked through a friend.'

Cyrus, 22, performs two songs on the show.

In addition to Let It Snow!, she does a rendition of Silent Night with just Paul Shaffer accompanying her on the piano.

'They just whipped that together over lunch!' Coppola revealed.

'To hear her singing live on set with just the piano was really fantastic. I was impressed that she can really sing.'
