The last movie saw them get engaged, but as shooting for the third instalment commenced fans were left in a frenzy after Bridget Jones was pictured without her wedding ring.

And as filming continued on the streets of London on Tuesday evening, Renee Zellweger and Colin Firth fuelled possible romance rumours between their characters as they headed inside Bridget’s flat together.

Looking typically handsome, Colin, 55, was dressed smartly in a suit and tie for his night on set for the highly-anticipated movie, based on the third book by Helen Fielding's Mad About The Boy.

Hard at work: Renee Zellweger and Colin Firth continued filming Bridget Jones on the streets of London on Tuesday evening

Renee's pregnant character was bundled up warm in a knitted sweater, denim mini skirt and a chic black coat.

A pair of buckled boots added to the winter ensemble, while the star wore a Baby On Board badge on her coat, which she's previously been seen wearing on set.

They appeared to be exchanging a few tense words before Colin's character helped Bridget as she struggled with her baby bump.

Fans of the novel have feared that the brooding suit-wearing hero of the trilogy may not appear because his character was killed off.

Diary newcomer Patrick Dempsey, who confirmed inclusion last week, hinted at Colin's return when he described what a pleasure it had been to work with the actor and Renee.

Earlier on in the day, American star Renee seemed to be struggling with the huge tree, with London's streets given a dusting of snow for the shoot.

Extras dressed in festive costumes, and carrying shopping bags as they mingled around a market added to the seasonal feel of the huge production which has taken over London in recent weeks.

The scene for Bridget Jones' Baby saw the congenial blonde slip some money to a homeless man in exchange for a copy of The Big Issue as she returned to her apartment.

Approaching the bearded gentleman in her typically sprightly spirit, the Chicago actress can be seen reaching into her purse before handing over money to the grateful gentleman.

While the actress has been pictured countless times on set sporting a faux baby bump, her latest scenes saw her flaunt her slender physique in a plunging navy lace dress.

Her lean limbs were dressed up in a pair of opaque tights which had been teamed with slightly eccentric sling-back stilettos by Dolce and Gabbana.

Then and now: Fast forward 14 years though, and on Tuesday Renee was filming some very different scenes in the snow

Her signature blonde locks were worn in a sleek style, though the front wisps of her hair were wrapped into small clips to show off her pretty face, which had been made-up with a neutral make-up palette.

The glamorous look was the same as the one Renee sported the previous day, as she once again filmed scenes in the British capital.

Her slender figure is a far cry from that Renee sported for the role in 2001's Bridget Jones and 2004's Edge of Reason, where she famously embarked on a 4,000 calorie-a-day diet to load on 20Ibs in just a few months.

Each time, swiftly as she gained the curves, her weight plummeted to a sinewy size zero for the red carpet, and the blonde has maintained that size during the 14-year hiatus.

On yo-yo dieting again for the role, Renee said in 2007 that the extreme weight gain could kill her if she was to tackle it again.

She confessed: 'Can I just tell you my body is whacked by the time we finish one of those.

'It doesn't know what has happened because it thinks there's supposed to be a baby and there's no christening.'
