UFC champion Ronda Rousey on why she refuses to use a scale to regulate her weight - as she admits she wouldn't stay at 135lbs if it wasn't necessary for her job

  • The 28-year-old, who is 5'7", told Cosmopolitan.com that she only uses a scale when she has to be a certain weight for a fight
  • She also explained that she sees positives about every size she is; when she's slimmer, she has great abs, while being heavier gives her a good butt
  • Ronda, who works out twice a day, also listed what she typically eats for breakfast, lunch and dinner when she is training
  • She follows the Dolce Diet and relies on lean protein such as eggs, turkey, and Greek yogurt, and drinks two gallons of water a day

When she's not preparing for a fight, Ronda Rousey has revealed she never obsesses over the number on a scale, but instead relies on how she looks in the mirror to keep her weight in check.

The UFC bantamweight champion, 28, got real with Cosmopolitan.com about her eating habits, workout routine, and body image, even explaining why she's just as happy when she's at her thinnest as she is when she's heavier.

'I don't really look at the scale at all unless I'm trying to accomplish something,' she said of maintaining her trim 5'7" frame. 'I look at the numbers to achieve a goal. I'm trying to get to this exact goal for this exact reason, because I fight at this weight on this day.

Be a knockout in Ronda's dress by House of CB

Woooowwww!

We may be used to seeing her wearing spandex in the ring but Ronda brought some heavy weight style to her appearance on The Tonight Show!

She chose a showstopping number by House of CB. Which we're delighted by because at first glance we thought she might have been in vintage Stella McCartney, which we wouldn't be able to get our hands on, nor afford!

But nope, nope, nope! This ravishing LBD costs only $117, and it packs one sexy punch with its plunging neckline and figure hugging silhouette.

Those sheer polka dot panels running down Ronda's thighs leave much to the imagination but sometimes that is just the look we're after!

So beat your friends to the punch and click right before this beauty sells out.

'But I wouldn't try to weigh 135 if it wasn't part of my job. I wouldn't feel the need to check to make sure I was always there. My reflection is what I check, not a number.'

She went on: 'I look at myself in the mirror before I step on the scale. I don't suddenly look different because a certain number popped up on the scale.'

And even when she looks at her reflection and sees a few extra pounds on her frame, she doesn't beat herself up about it. Ronda explained that there's an upside to being at a lower weight and to being at a higher one.

You have to have abs or boobs. You have to pick

'It's like a give or take. Because if I'm, like, really slim, I've got abs - but you have to have abs or boobs. You have to pick. There's a reason why there's no titties in the Olympics,' she said. 'When I'm at the heaviest, that's when my butt looks great, and so I'm just like, 'Great butt day!' And if I'm really skinny, I'm like, 'You know what? Good ab day!'

That confidence, she admitted, sometimes rubs people the wrong way. Though Ronda won't hesitate to tell herself she's 'lookin' awesome' when she catches herself in the mirror, she's found that other see that as cocky or arrogant. But the mixed martial artist insists she's neither of those things.

'You know how hard I had to work?' she said. 'I'm really proud of how I look.'

Though she doesn't mind that her weight fluctuates when she is and isn't training, she still sticks to a strict diet and exercise routine when she has a fight on the calendar.

The 28-year-old, who trains twice a day, is a follower of the Dolce Diet, which focuses on eating whole, nutrient-rich foods that are believed to help maintain muscle mass. And while she has said that she feels her most beautiful at 150lbs, her fighting weight is actually 135lbs, and she has to follow a regimented food plan in order to stick to it.

'It's not really so much for tastes as it is for, like, sustenance,' Ronda told Cosmopolitan.com of her strict diet. 'I'm just happy to have a full stomach… It's not a bad thing to feel full and feel satisfied -you're supposed to.'

For Ronda, eating is almost a full-time job; while she's training she needs to ensure that her body has enough fuel to keep her going, while during any rest periods that she gets, she's busy enjoying some of her favorite dishes - one of her favorite meals is a plate of chicken wings.

However, she noted that whether she is in training camp or not, she always has a chia bowl with chia seeds, hemp sees, oats, agave nectar, almond butter raisins and cinnamon for breakfast - as well as a coffee that she drinks on her way to the gym.

But the UFC star doesn't drink any old coffee; she makes hers with a French press before adding grass-fed butter, raw coconut oil, and stevia to sweeten it, throwing it in a blender and topping it with cinnamon.

'Cinnamon is good for you, so I just lay it on,' she explains in a video shared on Cosmopolitan.com's YouTube channel.

After her first training session Ronda makes herself a healthy egg scramble featuring two eggs, red peppers, tomatoes, spinach, avocado, mushrooms, and turkey bacon, which she puts on top of Ezekial bread with grass-fed butter.

And for dinner following her second round of training, Ronda eats turkey chili that her roommate and best friend, Marina, makes her using ground turkey, red and green bell peppers, avocado, hemp seeds, beans, cayenne pepper and chili pepper.

'She puts the chili in these little glass Tupperwares, and I'll put it in the toaster oven when I get home,' Ronda explained.

As for her own cooking skills, the author and actress said she doesn't 'poison herself'.

'That's the extent of my cooking,' Ronda noted.

'It's not exactly the safest thing when I'm in the kitchen. For some reason, people look at me weird when I'm holding a knife.

'I'm like, listen, I used to be a bartender, OK? I've cut slippery lemons all my life; I'm not going to chop anything off.'

When it comes to dessert, Ronda said she indulges in Greek yogurt topped with chia seeds and agave nectar to sweeten it, and she also drinks two gallons of water throughout the day to stay hydrated.

'I don't count calories at all. I have no idea how many [I ate] today,' she explained. 'I don't crave anything. There's not anything nutritionally missing [from my diet].'

Ronda has candidly spoken of her past struggles with bulimia she once thought her happiness was dependent on the size and shape of her body.
