Oprah Winfrey has revealed that she was pained to discover Lamar Odom's was found unconscious in a Nevada brothel after allegedly overdosing on herbal Viagra and cocaine.

When talking to Extra at the premiere of Belief in New York City on Wednesday, the 61-year-old OWN mogul said she was 'devastated' because it reminded her of her half-sister Patricia Lloyd, who died in 2003 after a long battle with drugs.

'It reminded me of having to deal with drugs in my own family...It is a battle that you can't win until they decide they want to win,' said the TV fixture.

Winfrey added: 'In my own family we lost that battle, I put my sister through rehab twice, she came out of rehab and went right back on Oxycontin and there it was, gone, dead.'

Oprah said she connected with those close to Lamar - including Khloe, Kim, Kourtney and Kris. The family is at the Las Vegas hospital where the former NBA great was taken. TMZ reported Wednesday he has a 50/50 chance of surviving.

She added, 'I know how frustrating it is because you want to be able to help, you want to be able to do something.'

While Oprah has met the Kardashian family - she interviewed them in 2013 - it is not known if she knew Lamar well, if at all.

TMZ reported in 2013 that the one-time LA Lakers player was considering doing an interview with her.

While at the premiere, Oprah also discussed how she was presented with Belief, which explores the origins of various faiths around the world, when she struggled to start up her network OWN in 2012.

Speaking to E!, she said: 'I was going through a challenging time with launching and building a network. Whenever you are challenged, most people go out - I go in.

'Whenever you are challenged, you need to go back and ask yourself, "What is it you really believe? What do you really want? What is it you're here to do?"

'Telling these kinds of stories was what I created a network to do. So, I thought, "Regardless of what else I have to do, whatever demands are on my time, whatever else is going on, this is what I want to do. This is the kind of stories I want to tell."'

Once the show was presented to her by producer David Shadrack Smith, Oprah said the show resonated with her, according to Variety.

'This is it...My heart opened up,' she said at the premiere of the show.

Belief will premiere on OWN on October 18.
