She's played plenty of chic and cool characters on the silver screen.

So it's little surprise that Jessica Alba is able to pull off an effortlessly hip outfit off-screen too, as she proved in Santa Monica, Los Angeles on Wednesday.

Opting for an understated and trendy look in her high-waisted jeans and a sheer, floral print kimono top, the 34-year-old oozed a hip nineties vibe as she ran some errands.

Channelling a summer theme in the balmy California heat, the Sin City beauty teamed her breezy, floral-print kimono with a red vest.

Flashing a hint of cleavage thanks to the low-cut garment's dipping neckline, Jessica also drew attention to her trim waist with a pair of high-waisted, distressed boot-cut jeans.

The California-native rounded her retro ensemble off with a pair of black leather ankle boots.

Wearing her mane of brunette hair loose and in a sweeping side-parting, Jessica showcased her naturally striking features.

She highlighted her pretty face with a minimal pallet of make-up, accentuating her lips with a subtle nude lipstick.

The Into The Blue star accessorised with a pair of wide-framed sunglasses to combat the sun, and a black leather handbag while she added an edgy vibe to her look with a collection of ear-piercings.

Earlier on in the day, the actress had been working hard catching up with the staff at her beauty company Honest's head office.

The company has introduced a new line of make-up - Honest Beauty - and established its first pop-up shop at The Grove in Los Angeles.

Speaking with Women's Wear Daily of the new venture, Jessica explained that the line had been inspired by her years in the business, and wanting dependable, quality make-up.

'I've been working since I was 12, so I have over 20 years' experience with make-up, and I am used to a really high standard of effectiveness and quality,' she told the website.
