SPOILER ALERT Lady Gaga really is Mother Monster as she wears a prosthetic bump on the set of American Horror Story

The singer may finally live up to her moniker, Mother Monster.

Lady Gaga has wowed fans with her portrayal of a sexy and very lustful vampire on America Horror Story: Hotel.

But on Wednesday, the 29-year-old was in full costume but she was far less of man-eater and more of a mom-to-be.

The star was spotted in Los Angles, California, looking heavily pregnant thanks to some movie magic and a prosthetic bump.

Despite being dressed in a patterned green coat with a long fur stole, there was no hiding her character's condition.

The star looked at least six months pregnant, as she made her way to a bright yellow vintage car.

However, as Gaga plays a vampire, the scene may be actually a flashback from a time before she became undead.

To those who do not know her secret, Elizabeth or The Countess as the character goes by, is a wealthy socialite hotel owner rather than a blood thirsty creature of the night.

So there is a chance Gaga was filming a flashback scene when she was human.

It may also explain why despite being a vampire, The Countess, has a brood of identical vampire children that she looks after, at least one has been kidnapped but where the other nine are from is one of the hotel's mysteries.

In addition to the coat-covering bump, the pop star was also dressed in a brown with green band felt cloche hat, suggesting further the scene may be a flashback as the hat was popular in the 1920s and this season's American Horror Story is set in the Thirties.

The star's locks were styled in platinum blonde curls which poked pout from under the hat.

Her makeup also made a style statement, with the actress' own eyebrows replaced by high and thin dark brows and her lips painted a bright red which contrasted with her alabaster skin.

While slipping into the role of The Countess for the new show has meant taking on a lot of work, the star gushed on Wednesday about her love for what she gets to wear on the scary series.

She told E! News: 'It's amazing. It's exciting. There are archives from beyond from designers.

'Things that are being resurrected. Things that are being really pushed.'

While Gaga may not be a stranger to wearing over-the-top looks, she said she does not try to go for the craziest look possible.

'When I go in and I see a rack, something that people probably don't think about me, they think I just go in there and I put on whatever's crazy, which is fine, but I don't do that.

'I go in with my script and I'm like, ''OK, where are we? We're getting ready to go out hunting. OK, I definitely need my hunting glove, and I definitely would wear my hair up because I don't want to get blood in my hair.'''

'There's a whole process of things. I'll say, ''Why would she be wearing a jacket now? She's not going out. Or she would be wearing a dressing gown because she's home with the kids. Or she would want to assert to Chloe Sevigny her maternal side to her in this scene. She's wearing black. I want to wear white.'''
