Torrential rain and puddles on the pitch couldn't halt Ecuador’s recent fine form as they overcame the conditions in Quito to beat Bolivia.

Ecuador surprised everybody when they beat Argentina days ago, but the most surprising thing about their victory on Tuesday was that the game was even allowed to go ahead.

Puddles formed on the turf as torrential rain lashed down, threatening to cut short the World Cup qualifier.

The poor weather and surface made the game tough for the players and it was hosts Ecuador that handled it best.

Miller Bolanos sent Gustavo Quinteros’ side into the lead when he struck from an acute angle to send them on their way to victory.

Before former Manchester City striker Felipe Caicedo, who played under Sven Goran Eriksson at the club, secured back-to-back wins in injury time.

The Espanyol forward coolly slotted home a late penalty after being uprooted in the box by goalkeeper Daniel Vaca.

Vaca had kept his side in the fixture with numerous save in both halves, including one from substitute Juan Cazares.

But there was no coming back for the away side as Ecuador earned victory to hand Bolivia their second successive defeat.
