Dismembered human torso with no head or limbs found floating in Texas river

  • The armless, legless unidentified human torso was discovered by fisherman near the Brazos River in Waller County on Wednesday
  • The body was apparently so mutilated that authorities have still yet to discern the victim's sex
  • Waller County authorities continued into the night Wednesday to comb the area for the missing parts

A headless, limbless torso was discovered in a Texas river on Wednesday.

Authorities in Waller County say the corpse was discovered by a group of fisherman that afternoon who'd been fishing in the Brazos River about 50 feet or so from where it was found.

Police said the remains were so mutilated, they've been initially unable to determine even the victim's sex.

'What appears right now is that the arms, legs and head are missing,' Waller County Sheriff Glenn Smith told KPRC. 'I'm hoping we can get some DNA samples.'

What's more, the lack of fingerprints, or even fingers for that matter, will make identifying the victim a major undertaking.

Smith told KPRC he's hoping the torso will have distinctive marks like a tattoo.

The body was first spotted hanging out of a black trash bag and detectives combed the area hoping to find more bags that might contain other body parts and also for other clues.

'There are numerous tire tracks down here. We are marking each one of them and taking pictures of each of them,' Smith said of the area under a bridge where the torso was found.

Smith also went on to suggest some possible reasons for the gruesome crime.

'Is it drug cartel or gang related? These types of things are certainly a consideration because of the severity of doing that to a body,' he said.
