The category also featured Tinie Tempah and James Bay - meaning that the girl group's competition was fierce.

As they have been victorious in the category, they will now be up against winning acts across Europe to be named Best Worldwide Act: Europe.

Hosts Ed and Ruby have been offering fans teasers of what to expect at the ceremony, which will be held at the Mediolanum Forum in Milan, Italy, on October 25.

The unlikely pair have highlighted their differing personalities for the 'Cute and Badass' themed show in a new promo video ahead of their presenting gig.

Orange Is The New Black star Ruby, 29, who joined the cast of the Netflix show in season three, plays up to her tough character in the promo clip.

Meanwhile Ed puts on a loving display while playing guitar before he is lured over to the dark side and becomes 'badass'.

Late last month, Ed announced on Twitter the news of his new gig as host: ‘So happy to say I'm hosting the #MTVEMAs on 25th October! Cannot wait.'

Ruby also took to Twitter, explaining: ‘So excited to be hosting the MTV EMAS In Milan with Mr @edsheeran !!! See you there!!’

Both Ed and Ruby have a hard act to follow, as last year’s MTV EMA - which was hosted by Nicki Minaj - was the ‘most widely distributed show in MTV EMA history'.

Meanwhile, Ed will no doubt be on hand to support close friend Taylor Swift, who has been nominated with a record-breaking nine EMas.

A host of stars are set to perform on the night, including Martin Garrix, Afrojack, Tori Kelly, James Bay, Pharrell Williams, Ed & Rudimental, Ellie Goulding, Jason Derulo, twenty one pilots, Jess Glynne and Macklemore & Ryan Lewis previously announced as performers.
