But a man who was in the mall the day Walsh disappeared believes he saw Jeffrey Dahmer (top left), a child predator who went on to commit a string of horrific murders in Wisconsin and Ohio. Dahmer, who was already a convicted sex offender, was sent to prison in 1991 after he confessed to killing 17 men and boys between the ages of 14 to 33. Walsh's case became cemented in U.S. criminal history after the boy's father, John Walsh (bottom left), went on to host America's Most Wanted and has more recently starred in CNN's The Hunt with John Walsh.

Zimmerman, 31, lost her footing while trying to cross the Lumahai River on Kauai's north shore on Monday and was swept out to sea. Lifeguards on Jet Skis found her unresponsive in the water about 200 feet east of the river mouth. Police said no foul play was suspected. The father of Lamar Odom's best friend is speaking out as the basketball star lies in a coma inside a Las Vegas hospital. Guillermo Castillo (inset) - who lost his son Jamie Sangouthai (left with Lamar in 1999, right with Khloe in 2010) this past June as the result of a flesh-eating bacteria he caught through intravenous drug use - said he thinks Lamar and Jamie had a 'death wish.' In an interview with the New York Daily News , Castillo said; 'I think Lamar is done. I think most of it is because he missed my son so much. 'I think deep inside they had a death wish, or a wish to die together. It sounds very cold-blooded, but I have a hard time controlling my emotions.'

Lamar Odom's children Lamar Jr. and Destiny have released a statement about their father just hours after visiting his bedside in a Las Vegas hospital. 'Thanks for your outpouring of prayers and support for our dad. We are here with our family and friends. We appreciate everyone respecting our privacy at this time. We ask for your continued prayers,' read the statement, which was given to E! News . Odom has been in a medically induced coma since Tuesday, when he was found unconscious and foaming at the mouth in the VIP suite of a Nevada brothel.

In celebration of her 44th birthday, Koko's trainer Francine Patterson, on behalf of The Gorilla Foundation, introduced the ape to some babies - a litter of kittens. Koko was captured on camera being presented with a cardboard box containing the kittens. After stroking them gently, the gorilla picked one up and brought it in for a cuddle (main). During her meeting with the kittens, she made the sign for 'cat' (bottom left) followed by 'baby' (bottom centre) - telling her trainers the kittens were now her adopted children. She also asked in sign language for one of the kittens to be placed on her head. The tender moment was filmed at the foundation's base in Woodside, California.

Flash floods in California have caused mud and rocks to sweep across major roads outside of Los Angeles, stranding hundreds of vehicles and trapping people in their homes. Violent storms brought huge downpours at Fort Tejon - 75 miles north of LA - bringing the freeway to a halt as 5ft deep mud engulfed cars. Firefighters rescued people who clambered on top of their car to escape the sudden flow of water, but there are no reports of injuries or deaths.

Angel Ariel Escalante Perez, 12, had been walking home school in Guatemala when he was ambushed gangland thugs who ordered him to shoot a bus driver or be killed himself. Because his father, Luis Escalante, worked as a bus driver, the brave schoolboy refused. He was then given the choice of being murdered by machetes or thrown off a bridge. Angel chose the latter and was hurled over the Incensio Bridge in Guatemala City. Despite plunging nearly 450ft, he survived after landing in the thick foliage below. He was finally found by his father three days later (left) and stretchered to hospital (top right) where he later died. His funeral is pictured bottom right.

Australian Maggie Russell, 20, has stopped eating carbs and exercises twice a day in the lead up to the World Beauty, Fitness and Fashion competition on the Gold Coast on Saturday. The fitness model only consumes a paltry 1,100 calories a day. 'I train six days a week with weights and seven days a week cardio, twice a day,' Ms Russell said. 'It's very intense. I spend four hours a day in the gym. It's all strict dieting.' The 20-year-old is now at the end of her 'depletion week', which means she hasn't eaten any carbohydrates but has dramtically increased the time she spends in the gym.

Thousands of Catholics flocked to the Saint Francis Assisi Church in Orland Park, Illinois,on Wednesday to see the remains of Saint Maria Goretti, the patron saint of chastity and rape victims.The nearly complete skeletal remains are encased in a wax statue and displayed in a glass-sided casket.

Researchers have revealed over 400 US cities set to be obliterated by rising sea levels - and have created an interactive map to reveal the full extent of the crisis. The map looks at various different post-2100 sea levels that could change in this century. Florida is the state set to fare the worst from rising sea levels. The next three most affected states are California, Louisiana and New York.

Protests erupted in Washington DC Tuesday after a cellphone video emerged on Twitter showing two white police officers pinning 18-year-old Jason Goolsby to the ground and handcuffing him. Goolsby later said he was assaulted by the cops after a white woman called 911 saying his presence near a bank ATM made her feel 'uncomfortable.' Police eventually determined he was innocent and let him go.

To their surprise, the baby is alive and spreads out its arms as it is picked up by a good samaritan. The women wrap the baby in the material alongside the placenta and carry it to safety. It is not known where the video was shot, although it is believed to be in the Philippines.

Alexis Gould, a 15-year-old dance enthusiast from Magna, Utah, who is battling a stage-three neuroblastoma, was amazed to receive the huge donation at a fundraiser, but was later heartbroken after the hefty pledge ended up being a lie.

An Oregon woman who was kicked off an American Airlines flight in which fellow passengers 'booed' the crew members says that she's still embarrassed by what happened to her. Footage captured on-board American Airlines Flight 408 to Portland, Oregon, shows Tiana Fough (left and inset) pleading with a female flight attendant after being ordered to get off the plane. Fough (pictured, center, leaving the flight with tears streaming down her face) had reportedly not heard a male flight attendant who had asked her to sit down. Passengers seated near the front of the plane (right) can be heard defending the woman by 'booing.' Fough says she is still 'mortified' by the incident.

Nicole and Jonas Maines, 18, were born identical twin boys - but Nicole always felt like a girl, preferring pink dresses and asking her parents when her penis would fall off. She began taking puberty suppressants as a tween, progressing to female hormones and eventually undergoing gender reassignment surgery before starting college this fall. Nicole and her family made headlines in 2011 after winning $75,000 in a law suit against her former school district. While a student there, they required her to use staff bathrooms - which a court found discriminatory. Nicole, who was born 'Wyatt', is now enjoying college life and has an 'awesome' boyfriend - and said she is always upfront about being transgender.

The two Tokyo freelance artists posted the images online, and have since seen them reposted thousands of times as people trying to answer the question of whether they are photographs of a real person or not.

Identical 83-year-old twin sisters both died Tuesday. Clara Mae Mitchel had a heart attack and died at about 4:30am inside a Littleton, Colorado, hospital, KUSA reported. Her twin, Helen Mae Cook, had Alzheimer's disease for six years and passed away Tuesday night. The sisters were born prematurely on February 2, 1932 and were raised on a Fort Lupton farm. Children and grandchildren eventually entered the picture, and the women spoke on the phone everyday and often visited one another. Helen's daughter Marsha Gerber has said: 'They would know instantly if the other person was upset or something bad had happened.'

Less than three months after Cecil the Lion was shot dead, a German hunter has killed a large elephant with 122 pounds tusks in a game park in Zimbabwe. The elephant is thought to have been the biggest elephant shot in living memory when it was killed on October 8 in Gonarezhou National Park in south-east Zimbabwe. The majestic animal's tusks weighed 122 pounds and were so big that they dragged along the ground, according to Johnny Rodrigues Chairman for Zimbabwe Conservation Task Force.

A dog credited with standing guard for nearly a week to protect another dog that had fallen in a cistern was deemed 'Washingtonian of the Day' Thursday by Washington state Gov. Jay Inslee. Tillie, a setter-spaniel mix, was joined by her basset hound friend, Phoebe, and owner B.J. Duft as she received a written proclamation and a Washington apple pin on a ribbon that was tied around her neck. Last month, 11-year-old Tillie and 4-year-old basset hound Phoebe were found nearly a week after they were reported missing on Vashon Island. A picture taken at the time they were found shows Tillie sitting next to the cistern where Phoebe was lying on a pile of stones above the water.
