'Stay strong brother': LA Lakers fan David Beckham reaches out to Lamar Odom with heartfelt message... as NBA star spends second day 'fighting for his life'

Their connection may seem an unlikely one, but as a fellow sportsman David Beckham reached out to Lamar Odom on Thursday afternoon as the former basketball player continued to battle for his life.

Caring father-of-four David, a former LA Galaxy football player, sent a message via Instagram writing, 'Stay strong brother' beside a picture of the former LA Lakers basketball star.

Lamar, 35, was hospitalised on Tuesday after he collapsed in Las Vegas following a four-day stint at a legal brothel and it's now thought that he has a 50:50 chance of survival.

David is a keen supporter of LA Lakers, with whom Lamar previously earned the title of NBA Sixth Man of the Year in 2011 and won the 2009 and 2010 NBA championship.

The 40-year-old was courtside for many of the basketball player's greatest moments as a committed fan, especially during the time that he uprooted his family to live in Los Angeles after moving to Galaxy in 2007.

The philanthropic TV personality is also well-known for using his social media to support his fellow sportsmen and women.

These included the World Cup-winning United States women's soccer team on their recent victory and former fellow Manchester United players Gary and Philip Neville when they lost their father. 

David isn't the only sportsman to shown solidarity at this time and come forward with their support for Khloe Kardashian's ex-husband.

Lamar's mother-in-law Kris Jenner is supporting Khloe and Kim at the Sunrise Hospital in Nevada where NBA player Trevor Ariza has also turned out to show support.

David recently took the time to meet a brave Manchester teenager, Brooke Ellis, who has been battling cancer and granted her wish to see the star in the flesh at Old Trafford.
