My article

hello,

I just submitted some work to Wikipedia and it has an embarrassing flag on it. When you go to google and type in "Seeking the Splah" it has a red flag on it? Can this be removed immediately. This is a new term that needs to be introduced to scholars.

Gdeydogon The flag has been removed -- along with the "article". Wikipedia is not a place to promote newly coined terms. When and if multiple reliable sources not associated with you use the term and discuss it in some detail, Wikipedsia might have an article about it, but even then someone else should draft it. ok... then rid it all the way.. When I type it into google it still comes up. Please remove it from the search engine so that I will no longer be associated with Wikipedia now and in the future.

You might as well stop yelling, Gdeydogon it isn't likely to help you. Wikipedia accounts are never deleted, but you can use the Right to vanish procedure to have your account renamed to a random username. You would have to make the request in accordance with the procedure, however. Wikipedia has no control over what Google reports or how quickly it revises its indices. I am sorry, Gdeydogon but I am not a renamer or a steward, and cannot do that. You will need to follow the instructions at Wikipedia:Courtesy vanishing#How to request a courtesy vanishing if you want such a rename. To protect users, it will only be done when the request comes directly from the user involved. As stated on that page, you can sens Wikipedia email via Special:EmailUser/Bureaucrats, or visit Special:GlobalRenameRequest and fill out the form there. Or send email via meta:Special:EmailUser/Wikimedia Stewards or to stewards@wikimedia.org. In any of these cases use "request for courtesy vanishing" as the subject/reason. If the form displays an error message, please either use the email method or report the exact error message here. DES ^(talk) 03:00, 26 October 2015 (UTC)

Oddly enough, by you complaining over and over here on this page, you're only making things worse. As for search results in Google or any other search engine, we (Wikipedia) have no control over what they do and do not display. Internet Explorer 11 questions

I've used FF for a very long time when I edit Wikipedia. For troubleshooting reasons, I tried using IE 11 tonight. I have two questions, the first much more important than the second:

1. I have Zoom set to 115%. For most things that gives me the approximate font size I want. However, the edit window is not affected by the zoom, and font size is tiny. For me, it's almost impossible to work with. What can I do to fix this?
2. I like to open new windows rather than open tabs. When I'm in IE and I right-click on a wikilink and pick open new window, it never opens maximized. I have to maximize it, and IE doesn't remember my preferred size the way most progams do and repeats the same behavior ad nauseam. On this issue, I've searched the web, and there are a lot of complaints about this behavior across multiple versions of IE. None of them seems to work for the users. Many "solutions" appear implausible and/or complicated. Is there a way to fix this?

Are you sure it doesn't zoom a little and you just want it to zoom more than other text? It may start out smaller than other text depending on the browser. Try this or another number in your CSS:

textarea { font-size: 125%; }

The other text is pretty big, obviously zoomed, whereas the edit window is unchanged. I remember also that one time I tried a higher zoom (not for Wikipedia), and anything above 115% was too big. Wouldn't a change to my CSS affect Firefox (the edit window font size is fine in FF) as well?--Bbb23 (talk) 14:21, 26 October 2015 (UTC)

I'm using FF now, but I went back to IE and experimented. 100% and 115% appear to be the same in the edit window, but 125% does make the font size in the window bigger. Unfortunately, as I said above, the surrounding text and text on other Wikipedia pages is way too big. Looks like big print books at the library. @PrimeHunter: I guess you haven't had time to respond, so I figured it would do no harm to try changing common.css as you suggested. First, it changed the edit window text to be HUGE. I tried lowering it in increments to 110%. I couldn't see any difference between 110 and 125%. Second, other things are still tiny. For example, the form to delete a page - the area in the Delete where it has the reasons for the deletion and the drop-downs (same thing for example in the edit summary text box). It's tiny with no change to common.css and with 125%. I have a feeling you may not have a solution to this problem, or at least not one that's palatable to me, but if you do ... 1. This is the wrong place for this. Talk:Enrico Poli is the correct place.

2. Some of those fail our reliable sourcing standards. IMDB for example, is written by a bunch of monkeys on typewriters. and Rickdeckard.net appear to be a blog, which (from Wikipedia's perspective) amounts to a single monkey on a single typewriter.

3. Articles require multiple reliable sources completely independent of the subject to survive. The Eugenea Film Festival website is not sufficiently independent because they are showing one of his movies. Indiflixx likewise appears to be an outlet for his movies, not an independent source.

4. I'm finding it really hard to believe that the "Epoli" in your username doesn't stand for "Enrico Poli." If that's the case, you should avoid editing any articles relating to Enrico Poli due to your obvious conflict of interest.

And one more point, Epoli.uk: even if the references were all reliable, "confirm[ing] Enrico Poli is what he says he is" is not relevant. There are places on the Internet that confirm that I am who I say I am: they do not mean that I am notable enough for Wikipedia to have an article about me. Does anyone know if it is possible to relist an RfC? I tried to do so at Talk:Turks in Bulgaria, which initially seemed to work but then the bot removed the RfC template as expired. Insert picture (jpg) in text

How do I insert a picture in text. I spent a long time formatting and getting pictures into Wikimedia Common. Now how do I insert some of these in a page of text? I've seen entries with pictures. Holyinn43 (talk) 11:41, 26 October 2015 (UTC)

I have fixed the markup in the article (Holy Innocents Church, Southwater) (coincidentally the image used is one I took a few years ago). This shows the changes that were needed. Holyinn43: I have also added all five of your pictures to the category "Category:Holy Innocents Church, Southwater" on Commons, and have linked this category to the Wikipedia article by means of {{commons category |Holy Innocents Church, Southwater}} so they can be found easily from the article. (edit conflict) Nafson84, in all probability, you can't. Certainly not the article you posted. It has now been deleted twice as advertising. As per WP:SOAP and WP:SPAM, Wikipedia should not be used to promote any cause, business, product, or person. The only way an article about Nivo Academy can be created and stay around is if independent reliable sources cover it in some detail, and someone uses those sources to write a well-cited, neutral article about it. And, as per our conflict of interest guideline that someone should not be you. DES ^(talk) 12:48, 26 October 2015 (UTC)

One way of looking at the problem, Nafson84, is that Wikipedia has almost no interest in what a person wants to say about themselves, or their company, school, relatives, band etc. It is only interested in what other people, people unconnected with the subject, have published about it in reliable places. So, an article about your academy must be based almost 100% on what people unconnected with the academy have published about it, and not at all on what you have said, or want to say, about it. --ColinFine (talk) 18:52, 26 October 2015 (UTC)

Help with creating maps of China

I have received an email from a collegue of mine, a professor who occasionally edits Wikipedia. He would like to contribute some maps, but has a problem that I am not sure how to help him with - but I am sure someone here will be able to provide proper help. Here's his email:

[code] I have access to a highly-skilled research assistant this semester. We would like to create a whole bunch of maps showing administrative divisions of China by GDP, foreign investment, population, etc. I'll be using these in my own work but we're very happy to contribute these to Wikimedia Commons. He'll be making dozens of maps but I'll only be using a few in my published work. The problem is that we can't figure out how to "color in" the map templates that are available on Wikipedia. We've found these pages:

@Piotrus: You might find some help at Wikipedia:Graphics Lab/Map workshop. I know there are some editors on Wikipedia who just work on creating maps that are requested. They probably have information on how to obtain a general map that you can then adapt for your purposes (with references to source material, of course). Liz ^{Read! @Piotrus: You might also drop a note to @Munion:. That editor is a cartographer, and recently organized a map creation event, which resulted in a number of fine maps being uploaded to Commons. Finished products may require a permission statement, and that editor has real life experience with what needs to be done. (In short, if the creator of the map uploads it themselves they may not need to provide a permission statement, but if one individual uploads the map created by another individual, a permission statement will definitely be needed. Finding identical (or close refs?)

I'm trying to find any sort of category (or tool?) that will give me either or both of the following for improvement using refnames and the rp template.

• Articles where the content of more than one ref is completely identical
• Articles where the ref contains a cite (presumably cite book) which is identical other than the page/pages value.

Two asterisks for tabbed bullet point results in one empty bullet point

If statement like this is found in a page's markup:

Junkcops, Two adjacent asterisks are intended for a sub bullet under a higher-level bullet, and should not be used without a previous single asterisk line.

Consider the following example:

• Point 4

• Point Alpha, a separate indented item
• Point Beta

Page titles ending in "Fraternity"

I tried putting an asterisk in front of the term (*fraternity), which seems to work. Then I found Help:Searching, which explains everything about searching and shows what I did was a "wilcard search". Czoal (talk) 21:59, 26 October 2015 (UTC)

That brings up both things with Fraternity and Fraternities in it and also many where the word Fraternity or Fraternities is in the middle of the title or in the text. I want only those pages where the last 10 characters of the Title are *exactly* Fraternity. Naraht (talk) 00:57, 27 October 2015 (UTC)

intitle:Fraternity will only give pages where it's in the title, but it can be anywhere in the title. Stemming means it also picks up some cases of "Fraternities". Help:Searching#Other search tools lists a more advanced but very slow tool at [1] which accepts regular expressions. It often times out or takes several minutes when I try to use it. I started it five minutes ago on Fraternity$, where $ matches the ending position. I'm still waiting to see if it ever returns someting. PrimeHunter (talk) 01:09, 27 October 2015 (UTC)

It doesn't have pure regexp, but I minimum I can apparently use SQL wildcards (% for any number of characters, and _ for single characters). It appears that you have created these pages without understanding the process to go through. The deleting admin did use some short-hand regarding why the page was removed, but essentially the articles you attempted to create did not assert that they meet the criteria to be included in wikipedia -- see WP:BAND for more information about some of these criteria. I would suggest you take a look at WP:AFC for information about proposing an article to be created. Tiggerjay (talk) 01:11, 27 October 2015 (UTC)

Admins rarely delete articles that are not already previewed and flagged as needing deletion by other editors. It doesnt take more than a few seconds to say "yep, that deletion flag is justified." -- TRPoD aka The Red Pen of Doom 01:31, 27 October 2015 (UTC)

Revert edits by banned editor/socks

Can someone revert all the edits at Cosmic string from October 23, 2015, until present from 97.126.235.119, 75.169.210.101, 75.169.31.1? All are the same person, banned user Jeffrey Verson Merkey (JVM). He then created BLPDegreaser and used multiple IPs. See Wikipedia:Sockpuppet_investigations/BLPDegreaser/Archive. Anyway, I don't know how to revert all that content in that article in a single edit. I haven't looked to see what other edits all these accounts made in violation of the orginal ban that should be reverted. Czoal (talk) 08:24, 27 October 2015 (UTC)

I don't know the history of what's been going on there, so I'm hesitant to make any sweeping changes myself. That said, if you want to make a mass roll back, just click on the date stamp of the "correct" version of the article. This will give you what appears to be a normal article with a warning at the top that you're viewing an old version. Click Edit at the top and you'll get an edit window for that version of the article. This too will have a warning at the top saying that you're editing an old version. Add your edit summary and click Save. This old version is now the most current. Dismas|^(talk) 12:12, 27 October 2015 (UTC)

Changing the title of article

Please help me with... changing the name of the title of this page Mood 92.0 FM from Mood 92.0 FM to Mood FM.

I cannot find the "move" button. We need to make these changes ASAP as we have opened up a new frequency. Thank you!

Quite true, but then this user has not yet edited the article the user's edits seem to be the sort of factual changes even COI editors are often allowed to make directly, Arjayay. Sarahsalah88, you can't move a page until you are autoconfimred which requires at least 10 edits from an account at least 4 days old. You don't yet have 10 edits from your account. No, Sarahsalah88, we (that is, the community of Wikipedia editors) do not need to make the changes ASAP. Wikipedia goes by what the majority of the reliable sources say: what the subject of an article wants is of little consequence, since it is not their article, it is Wikipedia's. Since it's likely that most reliable published sources for the station still refer to it as Mood 92.0 FM, that should remain the title of the article, according to the rules. Having said that, if sources are produced which show that the name has changed, we probably would allow the article to be moved even though, strictly, it probably shouldn't be moved yet. Either way, the other name can and should be a redirect to the article - if it is moved, that will happen automatically. --ColinFine (talk) 18:10, 27 October 2015 (UTC)

Report a plagiarism

While searching for some information on my hometown, Los Teques, I did find by accident that there was a complete transcription of the text of a publication that I wrote and was edited by COLECCION ATENEO DE LOS TEQUES under No.12 and registered in the Venezuela's Library Catalogue under the Number ISBN: 980-6035-42-9. The point is that it those not give credit to the Ateneo de Los Teques as publisher or to me as the author:JOSE RAFAEL MALPICA MATERAN. "Los Teques en mis recuerdos" is the tittle of the publications whose front page or cover I am forwarding for your consideration and further actions. Do you refer to the article Los Teques? I don't see anything in that article that looks as if it had been copied from such a document. Exactly what content was copied, please? By the way that article is quite short and completely unsourced. If you were able to provide reliable sources and expand the article based on them you would be helping the project. Your post is unclear to me. Wikipedia is a free online encyclopedia with around 36 million articles in total spread over around 290 languages. We allow others to republish our articles and thousands have done so outside our control, sometimes together with content from other sources without specifying which parts are from Wikipedia. Can you describe more accurately how to find the work which plagiarizes you? Is it online? Can you give a quote which it copied from you? I found mention of a work called Los teques en mis recuerdos with ISBN stated as 978-980-6035-42-3. For a long time, I've had my signature formatted with the timestamp in italics, but this has always necessitated me signing my posts with ~~~~'' rather than just ~~~~. @KarasuGamma: You could try to make the time stamp a part of the signature code. I have set my signature to [[User:PrimeHunter|PrimeHunter]] ([[User talk:PrimeHunter|talk]]) ''{{SUBST:#time:H:i, d F Y}} (UTC)'' and signed this message with only three ~~~ which omits the normally added time stamp. I'm not sure whether pinging works but you can see whether this post pinged you. If you use this method and sign with four ~~~~ then you will get two time stamps. Irish Goodbye

A Wikipedia search shows that "Irish Goodbye" is the title of an album in Mac Lethal, a song in Lynn Teeter Flower, and a stand-up special for Netflix in Morgan Murphy (comedian). The three mentions are equally small and it seems Irish Goodbye should either be a disambiguation page (which should include a link to wikt:Irish goodbye) or be deleted. Readers would be better served by search results than being redirected to an article with a tiny mention of one the three unrelated works. The primary meaning appears to be the expression which is not mentioned in Wikipedia. It's common that multiple people choose the same word or expression as title of a work. Forms of account creation in the user creation log

I have noticed three different forms of account creation in the user creation log:

• "created automatically"
• "created"
• "created (iOS App Account Creation)"

Someone can correct me if I'm wrong, of course, but I think that "created" is when someone creates an account here. And "created automatically" is when they create an account on a sister site, like Commons, and the account here is created as part of the global login process. Not a living person

Henry Hook just died. His article reflects this information, but he is still categorized as a living person. I can't find anything in the page source which causes this; I've even looked at the source for a couple of likely templates. Ma^t_chups 02:30, 28 October 2015 (UTC)

Speedy deletion record?

Lots of articles have been speedied in the past and are fine now. It is common for A7 deletes when the person or thing can't prove significance but then later gets that proof. All deletions are logged so if someone really wants to they can look it up. There is even a nice link to the page logs on the edit history page. --Stabila711 (talk) 02:57, 28 October 2015 (UTC)

Yes there is, Prisencolin, it is {{oldcsd}}. When I decline a speedy I often place it on the talk page of an article. The intent is to warn editors before they attempt to place a speedy similar to one that has already been declined. By convention, if the page is expanded to the point where a speedy would no longer be plausible, or if a page is discussed at an XfD and retained, the oldcsd tag is removed, as its purpose is over. However, there is no tag for pages recreated after being speedy deleted, for that, the deletion log serves as mentioned above. @Stabila711: DES ^(talk) 22:32, 28 October 2015 (UTC)

Times of events

In articles about events where the time is listed, what is the appropriate time to use? Local time? I ask because the article on the 2015 World Series lists the start times of games in both Kansas City and New York as EDT. You have a point in that times are often given in EST/EDT for various media events. Sometimes they'll also be given in PST/PDT. I presume that's so that people on the West Coast don't have to subtract 3, or people in the Mountain time zone don't have to subtract 2. They can just add one. I'm not sure exactly what you're asking. Yes, putting a {{coord}} template in an article, with appropriate coordinates, is in many cases all that is required. But giving coordinates to six decimal places, as you've done above, is too precise for any but the smallest objects (a particular outdoor statue, for instance); and there are other parameters you can add to the template to improve users' experience (the "region" parameter, for instance, can change the display of the GeoHack page users see when clicking on the coordinates, so that particularly relevant mapping services are displayed prominently). In some cases in which an article has an infobox, there can be an advantage (such as the ability to display a location map) if you enter the coordinates in dedicated infobox fields instead of using {{coord}}. MOS:COORDS contains some handy guidelines; I recommend that you take a look at it. (Sorry if I've misinterpreted the question.) Deor (talk) 14:29, 28 October 2015 (UTC)

List of "model" Wikipedia articles to reference when writing an article?

When improving on an article, I like to use another closely related Featured Article as a guide on how the article should be written, such as sections, lead, etc. I imagine many others use this same strategy. Currently I basically just pick a Featured Article arbitrarily, but I'm wondering, has anyone ever made a list of the "best" archetypal article of each content area (e.g. the best article on a video game, the best article on a type of dance, etc.)? Redirect created by move doesn't appear to be working as expected

I created the article Alec Snow. After I noticed that there were some articles linking to that page which were not associated with the person described in the article, I moved Alec Snow to Alec Snow (politician). The move created a redirect page that uses the template {{redr|from move}}, as expected. The redirect appears to work fine. However, pages that link to Alec Snow and the redirect itself do not seem to show up in Special:WhatLinksHere/Alec_Snow_(politician). Slight swerve

I'm torn as to whether this should have a disambiguator. On the one hand, it is the only article for Alec Snow on Wikipedia, on the other hand, the majority of hits for "Alec Snow" on Wikipedia are for articles where the Australian Actor from Home and Away is mentioned, for example, Demi Harman, which has a link to Alec Snow but where it should be redlinked.Naraht (talk) 15:01, 28 October 2015 (UTC)

Changing Headline

I am a novice to Wikipedia which will probably be quite evident when I ask this question (I find the whole process very confusing but perhaps I don't have enough grey matter to understand? Or is it generational? I grew up in the 1980s when will still used typewriters and had to actually carry around those huge encyclopedia volumes!) In any event, I would like to change the title of the article I am writing. How do I go about doing that? Do I have to start a whole new submission? Is it impossible to do? Please advise. Thank you. Is it that you want to remove the word Wikipedia in the title, or are you trying to move it to the main article space? Naraht has warned you against moving the draft into article space in its present form, but assuming that what you want to do is to change the title, keeping it in Draft space while you work on it, see WP:MOVE for how to do this. Need help checking an article for notability requirements

I am affiliated with Susan May Warren, an author. I would like her to have a wikipedia article, but I'm pretty sure I don't meet un-baised requirements. She has over 40 books on the market, and I would like to know what threshold of notability she would need, in order to merit a wikipedia article. I have worked on wikipedia before (a long time ago).

If you think that you can write an article about her that is neutral rather than promotional, you may write it in draft space and submit it for review via Articles for Creation, or you can write it in draft space and request its review here or at WP:Teahouse/Questions in the knowledge that neutral editors will remove any peacock or promotional language. Also there is something that looks like an article in a personal namespace at User:Majestic_Pyre/SMW. Based on that, the RITA Award *may* be enough for an article, but I'm really not sure. Help:Cite errors/Cite error references duplicate key

There are a couple of ciation errors at Don't Look Now (refs 6 & 14). They use the sfn notation and are throwing out the message "Cite error: Invalid <ref> tag; name "FOOTNOTESanderson199642.E2.80.9344" defined multiple times with different content (see the help page)." I edit this article periodically so the problem could only have materialized in the last few weeks. I have read Help:Cite errors/Cite error references duplicate key, and while it explains the problem it does not seemingly offer a solution for cases involving the sfn template. Hello @Betty Logan:, I have fixed it in the article. Some SFNs were included with "p", but should have been "pp". All refs for the same citations need to have exactly the same content. Checking of references with multiple usages in such situations has been recently improved (somewhere in technical Village Pump is a thread about it, see Tech News). If you see such an error ("duplicate ref name ..."), just search for any kind of inconsistency between usages of the same reference, even minimal deviations can cause this message. If you registered your email on the account, the password can be reset using the email. However, this requires knowing the username. Article needs language help
