SPOILER ALERT: Sending a message! Lucious Lyon leaves dug up CORPSE in car of nemesis Roxanne Ford as he takes down enemies on Empire

When sending a message of the be prepared for revenge variety, horses heads in beds were used in days gone by.

But Lucious Lyon opted for a corpse in a car on Wednesday’s Empire.

The maniacal record label boss (played by Terrence Howard) played habeas corpus by exhuming the body of his murdered business partner Vernon Turner (Malik Yoba) who was killed off at the end of last season.

The hip hop mogul then propped the putrid carcass into the car of his nemesis Roxanne Ford (Tyra Ferrell) – for a nasty shock on her morning commute.

Roxanne is the new prosecutor assigned to the Bunkie Williams’ murder case. She’s looking for any excuse to send Lucious to the slammer, but now he has the upper hand.

The show opened with the FBI raiding Lucious’ office while his son Jamal (Jussie Smollett) celebrated his pending Rolling Stone cover.

The gay Empire heir later posed for an avant guard painting, with his boyfriend attempting to conceal his jealousy in the background.

Just as diva Cookie Lyon (Taraji P. Henson) was about to celebrate Empire ‘going down like the Titanic’ the feds broke her door down too.

Purple-loving attorney Thirsty Rawlings (Andre Royo of The Wire), who seems to know everything, snuck into Lucious’ house to warn him.

‘How’d you get in here?’ asked Lucious, who was in bed with a very attractive young lady.

As Roxanne busted inside Lucious appeared – wearing nothing but his birthday suit.

‘Hey there baby, look wherever you like,’ he said with a smirk.

Back at the office Lucious double-crossing lesbian business partner Mimi Whiteman (Marisa Tomei) was on damage control.

Lucious had grander ideas - planning to ‘use the press’ to make Empire ‘bigger than it’s ever been before’.

‘Where we come from if the cops raid your house that makes you a G, if the feds raid your house that makes you an OG, that gives you that street cred, that ghetto pass’ he swaggered to the team.

‘We’re gonna stick our foot so far up the FBI’s as* they’re gonna wish they never heard the name Lucious Lyon,’ he bloviated.

In a later meeting Lucious categorically denied killing Bunkie to Cookie, his sons and lawyer.

‘I’m gonna drive a car right over your snake oil ass,’ she fumed.

Thirsty said he wanted to find the murdered Vernon Turner (Malik Yoba) and convince him not to testify.

‘It might be illegal,’ he conceded.

Cookie, who has been launching her own business, tried to strike a deal with her with her evil ex husband.

It ended in insults, him calling her ‘grandma’ and her retorting with ‘grandpa’.

‘Look at your fat stomach,’ she spat.

‘And find me a grandma that’s got an a*s like this,’ she added as she sashayed out of the room.

When Andre begged his father to let him back into the business Lucia's responded ‘You make this mess go away you can have anything you want’.

‘Ok,’ responded the scorned son with gravitas, knowing that his wife Rhonda [Kaitlin Doubleday] had killed Vernon.

Andre later told his pregnant spouse that he was going to ‘dig up the body’ of Vernon and take the wrap.

‘God has been speaking to me,’ he told her before packing some shovels into his car with Rhonda in tow.

When it came to the morbid excavation they couldn’t find the body.

‘It could be anywhere,’ shrieked Rhonda.

Just as they were about to fill in the holes and escape they were busted by Lucious, who had tracked their car.

‘You buried him good, I’m very proud of you,’ he praised.

Luckily Thirsty had a ‘basic corpse detection system’ handy to locate Vernon’s rotting remains.

‘Just for the holidays,’ he quipped.

Andre said a few words as they put Vernon’s fetid leftovers into the car.

‘I’m so sorry for what we did to you uncle Vernon,’ he whispered.

‘If I could change what happened I’d change everything,’ he continued remorsefully.

‘I’ll miss you forever, God help me,’ he sobbed.

Lucious’ eulogy was rather different.

‘Rot in hell you snitch,’ he snapped over the corpse.

He then went to hug his son.

‘I’m sorry, welcome back to the Empire,’ he told him.

Meanwhile Hakeem was annoyed that his father had sabotaged his girl group – but he agreed to work with Lucious for a music video.

The subject matter was ‘a post apocalyptic black panther theme with the brothers fighting police oppression’.

‘That’s real subtle Lucious,’ scoffed Cookie, who was arrested in the middle of the shoot.

‘That’s some bullsh*t,’ she screamed as they pretended she had failed to turn up for a court date.

‘I want my lawyer bit*h,’ he yelled in the cell.

Prosecutor Roxanne had booked Cookie on the false pretext that she had jumped a turnstile.

‘Do I look like I take the subway,’ sneered the highly strung super-queen.

‘You should kill yourself and that wack weave you got on top,’ cookie told Roxanne, after the prosecutor threatened to come after her sons.

Scared to be sent back to prison Cookie decided to spill the beans about Bunkie.

‘And your weave is nice, I’m sorry,’ she backtracked to Roxanne.

While Cookie was detained Lucious worked at poaching back Hakeem (Bryshere "Yazz" Gray).

Sibling rivalry bubbled for the youngest son, who drove a knife into a painting of Jamal and fought with him on set.

Short flashbacks of Lucious' mentally ill mother peppered the episode, indicating there is much to learn about the malevolent protagonist.

Empire continues next week on Fox.
