Natural beauty! Laverne Cox ditches her weave and make-up in a stunning stripped back selfie

On the red carpet she sets the glamour bar high and on the show that made her a star, she even manages to style it up in prison.

But Laverne Cox decided to do away with all the make-up and perfectly coiffed hair pieces on Thursday night in a revealing Instagram post.

The 31-year-old star snapped a picture of herself wearing nothing but a set of stud earrings.

Shot from her decolletage up, in the image a makeup-free Laverne stares off in the distance in what appears to be a hotel room.

While known for her voluminous blonde locks, in the image the Orange Is The New Black star does not have her weave in but instead has her natural dark hair tied back in a simple bun.

Besides from her earrings, the only other thing the actress is wearing is a slick of clear lip gloss across her lips to highlight her pout.

The 31-year-old star captioned the snap with a series of hashtags to reflect her mood: '#AuNaturale #NoMakeup #NoFilter #NoWeave #washfacenobase #TransIsBeautiful.'

While most women, especially in Hollywood, would avoid being seen with their makeup on and their hair done, the picture resonates further than that.

Previously, the star has spoken about how, as she transitioned, she once yearned for facial feminization surgery but learnt to accept the way she looked to the point that she is glad she did not undergo the surgery.

She told Nylon after Caitlyn Jenner first debuted her transition: 'Years ago I wanted to have the kind of cosmetic facial feminization surgery that Caitlyn has made popular in terms of people’s understanding.

'But I didn't have the money to do it. I'm so blessed and grateful that I didn't because I would look completely different. I've had to learn to love and accept all those things about me that make me distinctly trans: my broad shoulders, my big hands and feet, my deep voice.'

Posting a series of Instagram posts to raise awareness, the actress included a quote she once said to help those being bullied know they are more than what others says about them.

In the post she wrote: 'When kids were saying these awful things about me, I thought that was the truth of who I was.

'As an adult now, I have these people around me who are supportive and who are amazing and love me... what these people are saying about you is not who you are.'
