Lara Bingle looks bemused as she struggles to get a word in with fast-talking Russell Brand who jokingly labels her 'racist' for gifting him self-tanner

If ever there was a an odd mix of celebrity guests, the pairing of model Lara Bingle with the always effervescent and often incomprehensible Russell Brand was one.

The duo were panellists on Friday night's The Project and unsurprisingly, Lara was left out of the limelight as her British counterpart commandeered the segment with his quick wit, extensive vocabulary and loudly-voiced opinions.

Struggling to keep up with the notorious rambler, the beauty was caught looking bemused and somewhat lost as she tried to get a word in.

The always elegant mother-of-one appeared uncomfortable from the get-go with co-host Peter Helliar even suggesting she 'looks scared.'

'He was just really loud in my ear,' Lara remarked to explain her taken aback expression, not realising her words would trigger one of the ranting comedian's snappy returns.

'Well that is the sense that receives voice vibrations,' he retorted, 'if I was loud in your eyes, that would be a problem.'

And it only went from bad to worse, with Lara later attempting to break the ice by gifting the outspoken funny man with a bottle of self tanner from her new range.

Wait, what? The beauty was caught with a blank expression as her British counterpart began ranting about the economics of the entertainment industry

'Russell, Russell, Russell,' she said, trying to get his attention, 'You're from England, I brought you some tanning.'

'Hey that's racist!' he called back, 'Is this a product placement? "By Lara Bingle", hey what's your name?'

After a lengthy section of Russell being asked questions he didn't answer, it was becoming increasingly clear that not a peep had been heard out of their other guest, prompting co-host Waleed Aly to ask: 'How are you going Lara?'

'Oh god,' she sighed, 'I can't keep up with you [Russell], you're just way too quick.'

After Lara and her actor husband Sam Worthington's much publicised run in with a New York photographer earlier this year, the topic of conversation soon turned to the paparazzi with Russell attempting to explain the economics of the entertainment industry to his bemused looking partner.

'If they get a good photograph of you - maybe a nip slip say - that could be worth a lot of money so I suppose in a way, many of the problems that we face are economic,' he began as Lara looked on blankly.

'And problems as I say, we've become detached from meaning, people don't think "oh that's another human being trying to get through life".

'And it's difficult if you're very famous and you've got your own clothing line and makeup line and beautiful perfect nose and profile - people won't feel sympathy for you because they'll think you're a shimmering light of pure energy.'
