Jamie Oliver was spotted filming for his latest cookery show just hours after it emerged his £7million London townhouse had been burgled.

The celebrity chef, accompanied by Orlando Bloom, was seen in Southend, Essex, where he is filming Jamie's Food Fight club, centred around a cafe on the town's pier.

Mr Oliver, 40, seemed unconcerned as he went about his business in the seaside town accompanied by Mr Bloom.

Meanwhile his wife, Jools Oliver, was spotted outside the home where the burglary took place.

Thieves broke into the four-storey residence in North London and stole some electrical goods while Mr and Mrs Oliver and their four children were away.

The burglary itself took place at the beginning of this month, but news of the crime only emerged on Thursday.

The Olivers were only alerted to the burglary after a neighbour noticed that a door to the 19-bedroom home had been left open - prompting a police hunt for the culprits.

The thieves struck not long after media reports were published saying that the family was about to move house.

It is believed that burglars forced their way inside home through a garage then broke in to the basement, where they stole two electrical items.

A neighbour then called 999 after seeing an open door at the property.

The Olivers are thought to have been staying at their country home in Essex at the time of the burglary.

They are in the process of leaving the house and moving in to a £10million home in Hampstead.

The Grade II-listed house, which Mr Oliver bought recently, dates back to the 17th century and boasts eight bedrooms as well as a huge garden.

Builders are apparently carrying out improvements to the new property before the Oliver family can move there.

Neighbours of the chef say that burglars step up their activities over autumn and winter as the nights get longer.

One local said: 'The police regularly advise us to review our security arrangements at this time of year as burglars are known to scout the area looking for empty homes.

'Jamie's home has got CCTV, but it seems it didn't help in this instance as the burglars got in through the garage.'

A spokesman for the Metropolitan Police confirmed that officers are trying to track down the criminals.

He said: 'Police were called to an address on Friday October 2 shortly after 9pm after a member of the public reported that a door to the property was open.

'Officers attended and went inside the property and found that the premises had been burgled. Items were removed from the address.'

Mr Oliver's representative said that 'nobody was hurt' in the raid and that the family was away at the time.

He added: 'Two electrical items were taken. That's it.'

The TV personality rose to fame as the 'naked chef' with a cheeky-chappy persona, and is now one of the most high-powered restaurant bosses in the country.

He presides over a network of dozens of Jamie's Italian branches as well as a number of other restaurant formats, and his annual cookbooks routinely top the best-seller lists.
