De Vere seeks Ryder compensation

LAWYERS at DeVere Hotels are still thrashing out compensation claims over the cancellation of the Ryder Cup golf matches at The Belfry following the 11 September attacks on the US.

The Belfry will host the tournament next September instead, but DeVere wants recompense for lost income and the costs of putting on the event twice. Chief executive Paul Dermody said: 'These things take a while.'

Total sales at the group for continuing businesses were up 10.7% in the first four months of its financial year compared with the same stage 12 months earlier as leisure breaks took up slack left by companies. But this market was slowly picking up, Dermody said.
