Canadian skaters get their gold

Canadian skaters Jamie Sale and David Pelletier were elevated to a share of figure skating gold today in a move believed to be unprecedented in olympic history.

The International Olympic Committee accepted a recommendation from the International Skating Union that the Canadians be moved up alongside Russians Elena Berezhnaya and Anton Sikharulidze following the controversial end to the competition on Monday night.

The ISU president Ottavio Cinquanta also said that Marie-Reine Le Gougne, the French judge at the forefront of the controversy, has been suspended.

'She acted in a way that was not adequate to guarantee both pairs equal condition and this, I think, is enough,' said Ottavio Cinquanta, head of the International Skating Union. 'We have declared misconduct.'
