Chelsea Handler slammed by fans for making miscarriage joke on Pregnancy and Infant Loss Remembrance Day

Chelsea Handler has been slammed by fans for making a miscarriage joke on social media.

The 40-year-old shared an image of a crudely sliced up pomegranate to both Instagram and Twitter on Thursday.

She captioned the snap: 'It’s impossible to enjoy eating a pomegranate when the end result is this. #miscarriage. #cleaningupforyourcleaninglady'.

But she promptly deleted the 'miscarriage' hashtag on Instagram after catching heat from fans, who were upset by the post.

The joke came, perhaps coincidentally, on October 15, which in many countries is Pregnancy and Infant Loss Remembrance Day.

Taking issue with the joke, one fan wrote: 'As a mother who lost her twins this year maybe you need to rethink your disgusting comment about a couple of cry babies because today and everyday we actually do cry about the babies we lost!

'I pray you never or anyone close to has to endure the loss many couples not only women endure!'

While a few other commenters simply wrote it off as Handler's particular brand of humour.

And in apparent response to the controversy, Handler shared an image of her dog with the caption:  'Let’s get back to pictures of dogs so everyone can just get along. Look at this little a**hole. Chunk despises Tammy.'

For the most part Handler simply populates her social media with topless snaps of herself and her pet dog.
