Kristen Scott Thomas looks the picture of sophistication in floor-length scarlet gown at BFI London Film Festival Awards

It's one of the biggest nights on the British movie calender.

So it seemed only fitting that Kristen Scott Thomas pulled out all of the stops when she attended the BFI London Film Festival Awards held on Sunday night.

The 55-year-old actress defied the years in a floor-length red gown as she walked the red carpet for what would no doubt be a star-studded evening.

Grab a tent dress like Kristen

Years after her best known role in The English Patient, Kristen Scott Thomas still cuts an enviable swath. Attending the BFI London Film Festival Awards, she chose a dress the color of the red carpet and wore it with confidence.

You have to be pretty fearless to wear a red short-sleeve tent dress like Kristen. The fact that it's by lauded Parisian house Lanvin helps ease some concerns, I'm sure. She kept the look simple with some square-shaped cuffs, a pair of drop earrings, a black clutch clutch and a pair of black platform shoes.

If you've gotta have Kristen's look now, the good news is that you can grab this exact dress if you click right. It's currently available at Saks Fifth Avenue and Farfetch.

If a red maxi sounds good but you'd like to browse some other options, see below. We've rounded up some showstoppers from Jill Jill Stuart, Asos, NastyGal and T by Alexander Wang.

Clearly opting for a look that offered her both comfort and style, the Four Weddings and a Funeral actress opted for a billowing T-shirt style gown in an attention-grabbing scarlet shade.

She teamed the design with satin black stilettos, add injected an extra touch of opulence with dropped earrings and cuffed bracelets on each wrist.

The British star carried her essentials in a box clutch bag, while her brunette locks were worn in a sophisticated side-parted style.

Her make-up look was dewy and flawless with a liberal coating of mascara, a rouged cheek and a peach lipstick.

Just one of many household names on the night, other big stars at the event included Cate Blanchett and 12 Years a Slave's Chiwetel Ejiofor, who cut a dapper figure in a black suit, set off with a slick white shirt.

Last month saw both Chiwetel and Kristen named as jurors for this year's BFI London Film Festival.
