Jessica Chastain speaks out for wage equality revealing she 'made less than a quarter' of reported $7m for The Martian that was far less than Matt Damon's $25m pay

In June, Star reported that Jessica Chastain made $7 million for her work on The Martian, while Matt Damon took home $25 million.

But in fact the wage disparity was far greater, according to the 38-year-old, who spoke out about the gap between what male and female actors earn in a HuffPost Live interview for her new movie, Crimson Peak, on Friday.

'I've actually never said this, I think, so here we go: There's misinformation out there,' Jessica told host Alex Miranda.

'Someone wrote an article once that I made a certain amount of money for The Martian. I made less than a quarter of that in reality...there is a huge wage gap in the industry.'

Actresses including Jennifer Lawrence have already spoken out about the inequality and Jessica said she believed more would join the movement.

'It's wonderful that people are starting to talk about the wage gap, and really [admit] that it's an issue,' she said.

Channel Jessica's classic style in a fit-and-flare dress

She's been busy promoting her new film, Crimson Peak, and during a stop at AOL Studios in New York, Jessica Chastain looked polished and poised in a Michael Kors dress.

The figure flattering fit-and-flare frock hugged her curves and the modest knee length silhouette looked just right with a pair of nude Christian Louboutin platform pumps.

We adore the autumnal shade of burgundy that is perfect to wear this season. Layer it over a bodysuit with a pair of tights and black pumps to wear throughout the colder months.

Jessica's custom creation is not available to the masses but you can shop the brand at Saks Fifth Avenue with a click to the right. Or if you want to nail her style, look to the edit below for similar options from the Web.

'Women can talk about it, [but] it actually moves me a lot to hear men talk about it as well. I think the film industry is an incredible group of people ... and so the more that we all discuss it as a community, that's what I think is going to help.'

So no doubt she was delighted when her Crimson Peak co-star Tom Hiddleston chimed in to back her call for equal pay, saying: 'It's completely unreasonable. It needs to be fixed and soon.'

It was a busy day for Jessica, Tom and Mia Wasikowska, the three stars of writer-director Guillermo del Toro's 1850s-set Gothic ghost story.

Three's a wow: Mia Wasikowska, Tom Hiddleston and Jessica chatted about their new film, Crimson Peak, at the AOL event. The Gothic horror ghost story was due out the same day.

With the chiller set to debut the same day, the trio took part in AOL's Build Speaker Series at AOL Studios where they discussed the movie.

And Jessica held Guillermo's arm as they stood outside the studio before their appearance on CBS's The Late Show With Stephen Colbert.

The beautiful redhead, who wore a fitted, sleeveless, plum coloured dress for most of the day changed into something a little more revealing for her chat with Stephen.

The actress slipped her slender body into a figure hugging bright red frock with a cutout giving a glimpse of her cleavage.
