And Arnold Schwarzenegger was back on his bike in Santa Monica, California on Thursday.

The 68-year-old actor was perhaps limbering up ahead of replacing Donald Trump on The Apprentice - although given his love of the velocipede he may consider tweaking the show's famous catchphrase to 'You're tire-d'.

Pedal power: Arnold Schwarzenegger was back on his bike in Santa Monica, California on Thursday

The Terminator star was the picture of primary coloured balance as he sat in the saddle in a bright red t-shirt and blue shorts.

The Austrian born star recently returned from a trip back to his childhood home, in Thal in southern Styria.

A seven-times Mr Olympia winner, Arnie posted an instagram picture taken at the yellow building where he started his life, before leaving in 1966.

He captioned the nostalgic shot: 'It is always fantastic to go home. My childhood home is a museum now, but it still holds all the memories - the table where I played chess with my father, where my brother and I did our homework under our mother's watchful eye, where we ate as a family; the basins where we all washed ourselves (I was last - the water was always a little murky); the first weights I lifted. I also got to catch up with some old friends. It was a great day. The lesson? Always stay hungry, but never forget where you had your first meal.'

He also recently shared a video cycling around the Spanish capital Madrid and enthused about his favourite pastime: 'One of my favorite traditions is to bicycle in every city I visit around the world - it's fantastic exercise and there's no better way to experience a new place - plus I get to meet my fans. Today we checked off Madrid! The Arnold Bike Tour - coming to a city near you.'

The Robocop star also headed to the annual Oktoberfest in Germany, with girlfriend Heather Milligan by his side.

The couple have been an item for around three years, with the pair getting together in late 2012 after the end of the former California governor's 25 year marriage to Maria Shriver.

Maria filed for divorce in May 2011 after it was revealed Arnie had fathered a child with the couple's house keeper Mildred Baena.

But more than fours year later, Arnold, 68, still hasn't signed the divorce documents, according to a TMZ report Saturday.

It's not known why Arnold isn't ready to formally quit the marriage even though it's believed the former couple have agreed a straight split of their estimated $400 million fortune.

The former Governor and First Lady of California have four children together - Katherine, 25, Christina, 24, Patrick, 22, and Christopher, 18.

The Austrian-born action hero has described the breakdown of his marriage as his 'biggest personal failure.'

'We all fall at one time or another and this was a major fall,' he said at the time. 'But I had to get up again because only losers stay down, winners get up.

Triplets is set to be directed by Ivan Reitman who made the 1988 original.
