The idea of a cash incentive to get drivers to trade in diesels has been knocking around for some time, but there are fresh suggestions it could be on the cards. That would be a bad move.

In a bullish update, the firm said it expected strong performance in 2017. After years of savers pulling money out of emerging markets, Ashmore expects sentiment to continue improving. Stockbroker Numis said it was more cautious about how quickly funds would flow back into the region over the short-term and said the investment case was not strong enough to rate the stock a 'buy'.

Savings market chaos adds insult to UK's injured savers: Bewildering rate changes and top accounts vanish days after launch
A flurry of moves by banks and building societies last week, which pushed some rates up and others down, is forcing savers to rethink almost daily which account is best. The changes also mean the gap between the best and worst accounts is wider. But if you are earning a poor rate, you still need to move.
Savers dealt a fresh blow as NS&I; slashes rates on four top-paying accounts and cuts Premium Bond prizes
NS&I;'s popular Premium Bonds currently pay out tax-free monthly prizes at an equivalent rate of 1.25 per cent a year of the money held in them, but from 1 May that will be reduced to 1.15 per cent. The cuts will mainly fall on the £50 and £100 prizes, which will tumble from 141,900 per month to an estimated 41,458 - meaning 70 per cent fewer of these prizes will be won.
British Airways delays meant we had to sleep at the airport and then it cancelled our return flights - but all we've been offered is $25 each
After we missed our connecting flight, British Airways told us we could stay at the Holiday Inn, but then we were told it was full so slept at the airport and have only been able to claim back our $25 breakfast costs. We also missed out on our first night's accommodation in New Orleans which BA says it won't pay for.
Interest rate rise may be needed soon to curb inflation, hints Bank of England top economist Kristin Forbes
Kristin Forbes signaled she was inching closer to voting for a rate hike after becoming increasingly 'uncomfortable' with surging inflation given the economy's resilience since the Brexit vote. She said the UK's impressive performance since last June has made it 'increasingly difficult' to justify keeping rates at the record low of 0.25 per cent with inflation predicted to surge close to 3 per cent next year.

The 174,564 vehicles registered was 2.3 per cent up on the same month last year and it seems the order rush was prompted by changes to Vehicle Excise Duty that will make many cars - especially low-emissions vehicles - more expensive to own from April 1. New affordability rules introduced by the FCAy are to blame. Nigel Patton has experienced problems.
