'I will never go back to how I was before. I'm a lot healthier now': Chris Evans reflects on 'midlife crisis' after 100 booze-free days and marriage counselling

Chris Evans is on the eve of his 50th birthday with two of the biggest presenting jobs in Britain lined up before the milestone next April.

But considering his turbulent past - namely two failed marriages and a battle with boozey binges - the television favourite has confessed that he sought advice from a marriage counsellor, sex therapist and even Alcoholics Anonymous (AA) to get him through a 'midlife crisis'.

The 49-year-old comeback king, now settled into his third marriage to Natasha Shishmanian, 35, with two young children, says staying sober for 100 days was in fact easier than the London Marathon.

He told The Daily Mirror: 'I went to an AA lady thinking a lot of my life has been based around alcohol. I realised I hadn't stopped drinking, at all, for more than six days in the last 25 years.'

With a new diet and exercise regime, the svelte TV personality then trained for the marathon saying it changed his life for ever, adding: 'I will never go back to how I was before. I'm a lot healthier now.'

The TFI Friday presenter - a show which he returns at the helm of this Friday night - immersed himself in writing Call The Midlife, a reflection on his 'midlife crisis'.

Chris visited a marriage counsellor to save his relationship with his third wife, a professor of sleep to sort out his sleep and a sex therapist to 'keep the light on in the lighthouse'.

He has also admitted to taking miracle drops to brighten his hair, getting braces to fix his teeth and having his eyes lasered as he prepares for a new phase in his career.

Chris will once again front the Channel 4 program that made him a household name in 1995, TFI Friday, and eagerly anticipates the start of a refreshed Top Gear, for which he was named host earlier this year.

The veteran TV star has admitted that his biggest priority was protecting his marriage to former golf pro Natasha, telling The Sun newspaper he's gained 'experience' from his three big relationships.

'In order to do that I have to protect my health. This marriage is entirely different to any other marriage I've had. This marriage is much more committed, grown up if you like.

'It is more of a partnership. We have children, we have bigger responsibilities and so it is entirely different.

In shape: Going sober for 100 days drove Chris to train for the London Marathon, which he said was harder than ditching the booze

'But it would be different, because when I got married the first time I was a certain age, a certain type of person. Then the second time and now it is a third time, full stop.'

Previously, Chris has suffered the breakdown of his marriage to popstar Billie Piper, 16 years his junior, in 2007 and Loose Women's Carol McGiffin in 1998; both in the public spotlight.

Chris was previously engaged to Alison Ward before his string of high profile marriages and had daughter Jade, now 28, with whom he has recently forged a relationship.

The star, who has two children Eli and Noah with Natasha, tied the knot with the former professional golfer in 2007 and now claims he's 'very happy'.

He brushed off claims that they were living separately in June this year, insisting that their relationship was still strong.

With his marriage on track, Chris is fast becoming one of the most in-demand TV and radio talents in the industry again in 2015.

Back in 2000, Chris was named the UK's highest paid entertainer by the Sunday Times Rich List though he was driven out of the spotlight by his mid-Noughties divorce from Billie.

The television star, who began his career as a Big Breakfast presenter in the Nineties returned to TV with his regular Friday slot on BBC One's The One Show in 2010.

On the airwaves, Chris was formerly sacked from Virgin Radio and quit BBC Radio 1 at the height of his fame but made his radio return with a BBC Radio 2 show in 2005.

With two more big TV gigs looming, Chris currently balances his radio show with his regular slot on The One Show sofa.
