Wikipedia:Requests for page protection

Requests for page protection | ||||
---|---|---|---|---|
This page is for requesting that a page, file or template be fully protected, create protected (salted), semi-protected, added to pending changes, move-protected, template protected (template-specific), upload protected (file-specific), or unprotected. Please read up on the protection policy. Full protection is used to stop edit warring between multiple users or to prevent vandalism to high-risk templates, semi-protection and pending changes are usually used only to prevent IP and new user vandalism (see the rough guide to semi-protection), and move protection is used to stop pagemove revert wars. After a page has been protected, the protection is listed in the page history and logs with a short description indicating why it was protected, and the article is listed on Special:Protectedpages. Further discussion should take place on the Talk page of the article. In the case of full protection due to edit warring, admins do not revert to specific versions of the page, except to get rid of obvious vandalism.
If you would like to request a page to be protected or unprotected, please follow the following steps:
=== [[Example Article Name]] === * {{pagelinks|Example Article Name}} '''Semi-protection:''' High level of IP vandalism. ~~~~ === [[Template:Example Template Name]] === * {{pagelinks|Template:Example Template Name}} '''Unprotection:''' From full protection to template editor protection. ~~~~
=== Short descriptive header === * {{pagelinks|Wikipedia:Example Page Name 1}} * {{pagelinks|Wikipedia:Example Page Name 2}} '''Temporary semi-protection:''' High level of IP vandalism. ~~~~ |

Place requests for new or upgrading pending changes, semi-protection, full protection, move protection, create protection, template editor protection, or upload protection at the BOTTOM of this section. Check the rolling archive of fulfilled and denied requests or, failing that, the page history if you cannot find your request. Only recently answered requests are still listed here.
Template:Location map USA Vermont[edit]
Indefinite semi-protection: More than two hundred transclusions. George Ho (talk) 21:13, 12 October 2015 (UTC)
- Note: also see User_talk:Airplaneman#Template:Location_map_USA_Hawaii Airplaneman ✈ 21:43, 12 October 2015 (UTC)
Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi[edit]
Temporary semi-protection: Persistent addition of unsourced or poorly sourced content – news reports of an airstrike on his convoy leading to him being declared dead on wikipedia - yet again. Meanwhile extra traffic to page by people looking for info because he is in news again. Legacypac (talk) 21:55, 12 October 2015 (UTC)
- Declined – Not enough recent disruptive activity to justify protection. KrakatoaKatie 22:33, 12 October 2015 (UTC)
Babe Carey[edit]
Temporary Semi-protection: Persistent non-constructive IP edits by the same editor (returning again and again using different IPs). Thank you, Cebr1979 (talk) 22:08, 12 October 2015 (UTC)
- Pending-change protected for a period of one month. After one month the page will be automatically unprotected. KrakatoaKatie 22:41, 12 October 2015 (UTC)
- Krakatoa: Please don't do that! They tried it here and it didn't work!Cebr1979 (talk) 22:54, 12 October 2015 (UTC)
- In what way is it not working? Pending changes does not prevent anonymous users from editing. Instead it hides the edits from the majority of readers until they are reviewed. The idea is that disruption is infrequent and uninvolved editors can still contribute. — MusikAnimal talk 01:00, 13 October 2015 (UTC)
- Because someone who clearly doesn't know the show went and accepted nonsense edits without knowing they were nonsense edits. If these pages would just be semi-protected, it would prevent these edits from being made in the first place and nobody would be able to accept them. This has been going on for weeks and weeks! It's the same person using multiple IPs and the pages are not being edited heavily enough because he knows to do a different block of pages each time! He's outsmarted wikipedia and you're all (not you specifically but, admins in general because I never seem to get the same one twice) falling for it. Can you see my frustration here? I spend 5+ hours a day fixing this guys nonsense and all I ever get back is "semi-protect for *not enough* days" or "allow someone who doesn't even watch this show to accept nonsense edits because they don't know any better."Cebr1979 (talk) 01:10, 13 October 2015 (UTC)

Current requests for reduction in protection level[edit]
- To find out the username of the admin who protected the page click on "View history" at the top of the page, then click on "View logs for this page" which is under the title of the page. The protecting admin is the username in blue before the words "protected", "changed protection level" or "pending changes". If there are a number of entries on the log page, you might find it easier to select "Protection log" or "Pending changes log" from the dropdown menu in the blue box.
- Requests to downgrade full protection to template protection on templates and modules can be directed straight here; you do not need to ask the protecting admin first.
- Requests for removing create protection on redlinked articles are generally assisted by having a draft version of the intended article prepared beforehand.
- If you want to make spelling corrections or add uncontroversial information to a protected page please add {{Edit protected}} to the article's talk page, along with an explanation of what you want to add to the page. If the talk page is protected please use the section below.
Check here if you cannot find your request. Only recently answered requests are still listed here.
Current requests for edits to a protected page[edit]
- Ideally, requests should be made on the article talk page rather than here.
- Unless the talk page itself is protected, you may instead add
{{Edit protected}}
,{{Edit template-protected}}
,{{Edit semi-protected}}
or{{Request edit}}
to the article's talk page if you would like to make a change rather than requesting it here. Doing so will automatically place the page in Category:Wikipedia fully-protected edit requests, Category:Wikipedia template-protected edit requests, Category:Wikipedia semi-protected edit requests or Category:Requested edits respectively. - Page move requests should be made at Wikipedia:Requested moves, not here.
- If the discussion page and the article are both locked, this page is the right place to request an edit. Please see the top of this page for instructions on how to post requests.
- This page is not for continuing or starting discussions regarding content should both an article and its discussion page be locked. Please make requests as long as you have a specific edit you wish to make.
Fulfilled/denied requests[edit]
