The Shannon twins were involved in a horrific car crash on Monday.

The Beverly Hills wreck was so bad that the roof of their white Mercedes-Benz G-wagon had to be cut open by firefighters to pull out Kristina while her sister Karissa was taken out through the windshield.

Both of the 26-year-old former Playboy models had to be rushed to the local hospital, TMZ reported.

While in the emergency room, Kristina was cited for misdemeanor DUI.

Trouble with the law: The Shannon twins were in a car accident in Beverly Hills on Monday, TMZ reported on Friday, that resulted in Kristina being arrested for a DUI; here her sister Karissa is seen in a hospital bed after the wreck

'Kristina was driving and lost control of the car,' a source told the site. 'The car rolled.'

Police told the site that the ladies only suffered scratches and bruises. It was added that the two blondes were on their way to get their nipples pierced.

The girls have a reputation for partying hard. In February Kristina was seen falling down outside her car as she left the Chateau Marmont in West Hollywood.

A source tells DailyMail.com that the two recently suffered a loss.

'Their mother passed away this year,' said the friend. 'So it has not been that easy for them. They are struggling. Don't judge them too fast.'

In 2008 TMZ reported the two models have arrest records.

The siblings were charged in St. Petersburg in 2007 with felony aggravated assault. They reportedly got into an altercation with two other people at a house party.

The twins were put on probation and required to pay restitution.

Karissa was also arrested on a misdemeanor battery charge that same year.

Earlier this month Karissa and Kristina faced the wrath of two irate surgeons after they admitted to risking their lives by mixing pain medication with alcohol after going under the knife to have $80,000 worth of botched surgeries fixed.

On an episode of E! reality series Botched, Hugh Hefner's ex girlfriends asked Los Angeles-based surgeons Paul Nassif (the ex-husband of RHOBH star Adrienne Maloof) and Terry Dubrow to reconstruct their 'pinched' noses and breasts - after having five prior breast enhancement jobs each - because they had trouble breathing and no longer looked identical.

However, the doctors got more than they bargained for when they learned during a follow-up consultation after their surgeries that both Karissa and Kristina had been drinking wine while taking Percocet for pain management.

During their check-up, Dr Dubrow asked Karissa if she had been drinking alcohol, and she boldly replied: 'I'll drink more after this.'

The doctors were alarmed by her response, and when Dr Dubrow continued to press her for answers, Kristina admitted that she had been drinking wine.

'You understand that you can't actually take those two Percocets and wine because they are both depressants and you could not wake up?' Dr Nassif asked Karissa as he checked her nasal passages.

After hearing Dr Nassif's warning, Kristina said they were giving her an 'anxiety attack' because she was drinking too.

When Karissa tried to change the subject to the dryness in her nasal passages, Dr Dubrow responded: 'You are worried about dryness? We're worried about you dying.'

Dr Nassif firmly asked Karissa to look at him and say that she wasn't going to drink or take three Percocets anymore, but his warning tone rubbed Kristina the wrong way.

'She understands this. She's not illiterate. She knows,' she argued with the doctor, who noted: 'No, you don't know or you wouldn't have done it then.'
