'It was perfection': Mel Gibson sneaks into Opera House to watch burlesque show Velvet with actor pals Vince Vaughn and Andrew Garfield

Hollywood star Mel Gibson has been busy directing on the set of his new film, Hacksaw Ridge.

But on Saturday, the 59-year-old Hollywood star took a break to watch burlesque and acrobatics show Velvet at the Sydney Opera House with actor pals Vince Vaughn, 45, and Andrew Garfield.

In fan photos, the trio appear mesmerised by the stage show, which features scantily-clad women and singer Marcia Hines and, according to The Daily Telegraph, they all agreed 'it was perfection.'

The newspaper reports the men flew under the radar as they arrived and left and crept out as soon as it came to an end.

But they had a security guard relay their thoughts on the show telling staff at the Opera House they thoroughly enjoyed it.

In the pictures, they all looked dressed up in shirts as they sit transfixed at the stage.

Mel is currently directing Vince and Andrew in his World War II drama, Hacksaw Ridge, being filmed on the outskirts in Sydney.

Last week, the New York-born star, who grew up in Australia, was on set directing the cast in a field.

The movie revolves around the true story of American conscientious objector, Desmond T. Doss, who managed to save the lives of his fellow men in a battle in Okinawa without shooting a gun.

It also stars the likes of Teresa Palmer and Rachel Griffiths and is expected to be released next year.

At a press conference earlier this year, Mel shared his excitement ahead of the project, saying: 'I'm so glad to be here again, working here again, bumping into people I've known for years, decades, again... and moving forward - it's been great.'

In August, Mel made headlines in a reported clash with a female Daily Telegraph photographer, Kristi Miller, in Sydney.

Kristi said the star, who was leaving an Australian Israeli Film festival with girlfriend Rosalind Ross, 24, hurled verbal abuse at her and shoved and spat at her.

At the time, Mel's representative told Daily Mail Australia the Braveheart star did 'not shove, or spit at anyone' and said it 'is a complete lie.'
