Some big name stars turned out to support the Headstrong Project's 3rd annual Words of War event on Monday night.

Olivia Wilde, Michelle Monaghan, Chelsea Clinton and Chris Rock were some of the celebrities pictured arriving at One World Trade Center to support the cause which benefits veterans of post 9/11 war.

Wilde, 31, was understated but gorgeous in a long black dress with colourful bodice as she hit the red carpet.

The skirt of her gown grazed the floor revealing some red patent heels while the top of the garment featured a desiign of colourful shapes and a sheer neckline.

The actress, who currently stars in drama Meadowland, wore her hair in a low ponytail and appeared to be wearing barely a scrap of make-up.

Meanwhile, Michelle Monaghan, 39, donned a chic asymmetric shift dress and dressed it up with gold accessories.

Olivia Wilde stepped out for a good cause when she attended a charity event at the World Trade Center in New York. The House star wore a color block dress by Roksanda to the bash with a pair of red patent leather pumps.

According the website proceeds from Words of War help to provide 'completely cost free, bureaucracy free, state of the art care' to help post 9/11 veterans of combat heal the wounds of war.

Comedian Rock, 50, kept it low key in a charcoal grey sweater and navy slacks as he posed for photos with one of the military veterans at the event.

Wilde, who is engaged to comedian Jason Sudeikis, went solo for the evening leaving her beau and their young son Otis at home.

Meanwhile, the brunette beauty recently admitted she was completely hammered when she filmed 2013 indie Drinking Buddies.

'We were hammered the entire movie because it was real beer, because beer on that set was cheaper than water, because we were shooting in a brewery,' the actress revealed in an interview with Sam Jones for Off Camera With Sam Jones.

She also explained that the real booze was a shock to co-star Anna Kendrick, who arrived on set two weeks later than everyone else.

'She sat down to do the first scene and took a huge gulp of beer, not realizing it was real, and was like instantly hammered.' Olivia said of her diminutive cast-mate.

'She was like, "What’s happening? What are you guys doing?" and we were like, "Oh, we forgot to tell you – the beer's all real and everyone's drunk. It's 10am., welcome to Drinking Buddies."'
