Back To The Future gets tribute from Bacary Sagna... but do Manchester City even need the DeLorean to win the title?

  • Back To The Future Day marks the day Marty McFly arrived in the future
  • Manchester City defender Bacary Sagna has paid his own tribute
  • Sagna takes off in his own time-travel enabled DeLorean DMC-12
  • Manchester City face Sevilla on Wednesday in the Champions League

Whether or not Manchester City even need the help of a DeLorean DMC-12 with a time travel-enabling Flux capacitor to win the 2015-16 Premier League, Bacary Sagna is taking no chances.

The French Sky Blues defender has bought into Back to the Future day with his own tribute to the 1980s hit film franchise which takes Marty McFly through history in the fictional Hill Valley.

Of course, there's a twist in Sagna's version - Bac To The Future - marking October 21, 2015, the day in the movie's 1989 sequel that Michael J Fox's Marty arrives in the future.

While the original film came out 30 years ago, the opening scenes of Back to the Future Part II land Marty in the Hill Valley Town centre where he's spooked by a hologram advertising Jaws 19 and a car's landing gear is being checked.

In Bac To the Future, Sagna, wearing futuristic garb in McFly's style but not without his white football boots, he coolly raises his aviator sunglasses to the camera and takes off in the DeLorean in a nod to the film's trailer.

Where he's headed will have to wait for the sequel, but for his boss Manuel Pellegrini a trip to the not too distant past would be just fine as his table toppers look to reclaim the English top-flight title after relinquishing it last year to Chelsea.

Although a win against Sevilla in Wednesday night's Champions League Group D clash would do for now.

Sagna, who was two when the original was released and six when its sequel first screened, 32 also gets his hands on a Grays Sports Almanac from 1950-2000, which McFly's nemeses Biff gives his younger self in the past to make him rich via gambling in the future.

The meddling with time makes some wacky things happen, such as the Chicago Cubs winning the World Series in 2015 - a joke, of course, as the 'lovable loser' Cubs haven't won baseball's top prize since 1908. In 1989, the Cubs hadn't appeared in the World Series for 44 years and 26 have since passed.

They are right now though in the National League Championship Series, which if they win they'll be in the World Series. However they've now fallen behind the New York Mets 3-0 in the best of seven series and will have to win four in a row to make it.

Whether they achieve that feat or not, the Cubs were never a chance to make the 'prediction' come true - in the film they beat Florida, which didn't have a franchise until 1993 and have been the Miami Marlins since 2012.
