Bride on a budget: ASOS is selling a 'wedding dress' by online brand Fame and Partners for just $309
Wedding wear: The gown, which features a dramatic cowl back and train, is exclusively sold on the e-commerce site
But ASOS has made waves this week by selling a dress many brides would give their right arm (or fiance) for, and it costs just $309 - with shipping included.
More than 300 of the gowns have been snapped up since the dress went on sale seven weeks ago, an ASOS spokesperson told Daily Mail Australia.
The 'Eternity Maxi Dress' is produced by brand Fame and Partners and is exclusive to the online e-retailer.
The dress is a pale nude full-length gown with a plunging V-neckline and dramatic low cape-style cowl back.
It features intricate pleating detail at the front, and a billowing train just made for walking down the aisle.
A steal: The pale nude full-length dress is selling for just AUD$309 - with shipping included
But traditional bridal designers aren't convinced. Luom Ousby, designer and owner of LUOM.O, warns that 'Brides should not take a short-cut on their wedding dress'.
'Its very risky to purchase something like this online that is definitely 100 per cent polyester and would be made in China.
'Your wedding day is your one chance to feel and look great on your special day so why would you risk that?'
The designer, who has shown at New York Fashion Week, says that the high-quality fabrics and expert craftmanship are the reason wedding dresses cost thousands of dollars.
Prized purchase: A wedding dress can typically cost from $1,000 to tens of thousands
'A good quality silk or lace wedding dress averages out at $4,000, you are paying for beautiful fabrics, an expert fit and make of the gown by quality dressmakers.'
Fame and Partners is an Australian-owned brand with headquarters in New York and Sydney's Bondi.
The online retailer specialise in affordable 'occasion' wear, with most of their gowns selling for between $120 and $400.
A recent study estimated the average wedding budget for Australian couples at $65,000 - $30,000 more than just two years ago.
Daily Mail Australia has contacted ASOS and Fame and Partners for comment.
