WARNING GRAPHIC IMAGES: The 40-pound bull terrier called Duchess (inset) was shot in the head three times by a police officer who had knocked on her owners' door to say they had left their car door open. Surveillance footage of the incident in Florida City shows the black and white pet run out of the door after it was opened in response to the knock. The unnamed officer then draws his gun and shoots the animal dead (left). Duchess's owner Gillian Palacios, who adopted Duchess from a shelter, said: 'She was curious. She wasn't barking (and) she wasn't growling. There was no reason for him to think she was aggressive in any way.' After the shooting, Palacios and her daughter sobbed uncontrollably over their beloved pet's body (right). The officer, who has not been identified, has been put on administrative leave pending an investigation.

HOUSTON ? A man's ex-wife allegedly stabbed his new wife in the back at an apartment complex in west Houston, police say.

The incident happened overnight Tuesday at a complex not far from Beltway 8.

After the stabbing, police say the victim got a ride to a nearby gas station at Westheimer where an ambulance picked her up. She was alert and conscious as she spoke to police and was taken to the hospital.

The suspect in the case was not immediately located, but police say they know her identity.

Police in Houston say the two women got into a dispute at around 3am, which culminated when the ex-wife stabbed her rival in the back. The suspect remains at large.
