As a former James Bond star he famous drove a plethora of exotic and speedy cars.

But it seems that Pierce Brosnan prefers a more sedate and healthy mode of transport these days, as the actor exchanged Bond's iconic Aston Martin for a mountain bike in Malibu on Monday.

Heading out for a relaxing ride on his black bike, the 62-year-old actor cut a sporty figure in a vest and jogging bottoms as he cycled along the picturesque Californian coast.

Working up a slight sweat on his solo ride around the picturesque town and coastline, Pierce looked relaxed and content as he rode along on his sturdy bike with earphones in.

Opting to keep cool in the heat of the sun, the No Escape star donned a black sports vest which also showcased his muscular arms.

Rounding off his sporty look, the actor - who shot to global fame as the fifth James Bond - teamed the vest with a pair of dark jogging bottoms and sturdy trainers.

Wrapping a navy sweater around his waist, the Hollywood star accessorised his look with a pair of green-tinted aviator sunglasses and a grey baseball cap.

Whipping his cap off as he coasted along a stretch of pavement to cool down, the Irish-born actor displayed his silver mane which was slicked back.

But while he's clearly decided not to follow in Bond's footsteps when it comes to lifestyle, Pierce still has his view on how the smooth-talking Spy should be depicted.

Keeping an eye on the current direction the franchise is moving in, the actor recently said that he thinks the actor to fill current Bond Daniel Craig's shoes will be a white male.

Quashing rumours of a possible shake-up to the look and identity of Bond, which has ranged from a black actors playing the role to a female 007, he said: 'Anything is possible for sure, but I think he'll be male and he'll be white.'

Talking to Press Association a few weeks ago, the actor opined: 'There's wonderful black actors out there who could be James Bond, and there's no reason why you cannot have a black James Bond.

'But a female James Bond, no, I think it has to be a male. James Bond is a guy, he's all male. His name is James, his name is James Bond.'
