The decision to take a weekend marriage retreat prompted rumors that the scandals that have plagued their family over the past several months have taken a toll on the conservative Christian couple.

RadarOnline.com reported the sessions were lead by a pastor and evangelist who claims to provide 'Biblical solutions' to 'critical family problems.'

Jim Bob and Michelle's eldest son Josh entered a Christian rehab facility in August after confessing he'd committed adultery.

The 31-year-old revealed he had been cheating on his wife Anna, with whom he has four children in a scandal that rocked the already battered family.

In July, TLC canceled their show 19 Kids And Counting after it emerged Josh, as a teen, had molested several underage girls including his sisters Jill and Jessa.

However, the network has now decided to move ahead with a spin-off featuring the married Duggar daughters Jill and Jessa.

The series of specials will document the birth of Jessa and Ben's first child and show Jill and husband Derick Dillard's life as missionaries in El Salvador with their young son Israel.

On Sunday,Jill and Derick posted an update on their own blog announcing their return to Central America where they'll continue to attend language school to learn Spanish.

'It will be many months before we are able to make a short visit back to the States again,' the couple said. 'Please keep praying for us—we are praying for you!'

Jill & Jessa: Counting On is scheduled to premiere on the cable network in December.
