Khloe Kardashian has put her relationship with boyfriend James Harden on hold, according to reports.

The romance hiatus comes as a result of the recent goings-on around Khloe's estranged husband Lamar Odom, who was left fighting for his life after being found unconscious from a near-fatal overdose in a Las Vegas brothel.

It has also been claimed that Lamar, 35, managed to muster the strength to tell his ex that he 'loves her', after waking from a coma.

According to TMZ, the 31-year-old Keeping Up With The Kardashians star has underlying deep feelings for Lamar - who she married in 2009, but is now separated from - which has caused her to rethink her new relationship.

Khloe's union with NBA player James, 26, came into question when she flew out to visit her former spouse in hospital immediately after he was taken there at the weekend.

She had vowed to support him as he recovered following his brush with death, causing an obvious conflict with her current relationship, especially as it's thought ex-NBA star Lamar will take months to be nursed back to health.

Meanwhile, Lamar has now been discharged from Sunrise hospital in Las Vegas, just under one week since he was found unconscious from a near-fatal overdose in a brothel.

According to reports, the one-time NBA great has been breathing on his own this week after collapsing last Tuesday and was even able to tell his estranged wife, Khloe: 'I love you'.

The star was airlifted about 5.30pm to Los Angeles, where he will continue rehabilitation.

E! News has reported that Khloe rode in the helicopter with her husband - who she is still legally married to, despite going through divorce proceedings - to LA.

Although they have signed the divorce papers (she filed back in 2013), there are still final proceedings to be completed by the judge.

The move from hospital to rehab for Lamar is a good sign: he was previously prohibited from being airlifted because of his condition.

He is 'making fast progress' and can now move his arms and legs, but he has been unable to stand up, even with assistance, according to the report.

A CT scan came back clean, but there may be some cognitive issues ahead, and he remains on dialysis due to kidney failure.

However E! also reported that he recently passed a swallowing test, which is a good sign of neurological function.

Devoted Khloe has not left his side since the collapse and travels with him everywhere in the hospital.

She'll be with him throughout the 'months' of treatment ahead of him as he continues to recover.

While Khloe's dedication to the troubled former basketball star is laudable, it raised the question about what her unwavering devotion may cost her personally.

The obvious conflict was with the reality star's new romance with James, who she has been dating for around four months, although it seems to have cooled off in the midst of the medical crisis.

While the couple's romance is still very new - they were only first spotted together on the July Fourth holiday weekend - they had seemed smitten.

Whether attending a UFC fight, or simply picking up Mexican fast food at Chipotle, it was clear the couple were delighting in one another's company.

Their relationship moved quickly, and when Harden turned 26 at the end of August, it was Khloe who took control of his birthday celebrations.

And while the extravagant fireworks celebration may have annoyed the residents of the quiet neighbourhood it disturbed, it certainly met with the seal of approval from Harden.

In a new interview, apparently given prior to Lamar's collapse, he talked of his appreciation for Khloe.

'Turning 26 was special,' Harden told The Houston Chronicle in an article published Sunday. 'Khloe did an amazing job with the birthday party.'

And he even seemed at ease with the blinding spotlight thrust upon him by his association with his new love's fame-hungry family - with his birthday even filmed for Khloe's show Keeping Up With The Kadashians.

'I'm not going to sit there and be in the house and be shackled up,' he said, explaining that the attention wouldn't change his attitude to life. 'I'm going to be free, have fun and enjoy it.

'I've worked so hard to be in this position, I'm going to enjoy being in this position. It's what I've worked for. There are certain perks that comes with it.'

The Houston Rockets star said he wasn't 'overwhelmed'. 'I'm really like a normal guy. I like to do normal things,' he said.

And James told the newspaper that he was at a 'good stage' both in his professional and private life. 'Everything is flowing. Everything is what I imagined it would be. My family is great. Friends. Everyone is in a good place right now.'

But while the bearded sportsman was ready for the fame that a life with Khloe would bring he has yet to comment on the crisis which caused Khloe to drop everything and race to Las Vegas a week ago.

Indeed, as Khloe sits vigil at Lamar's bedside, James' only social media posting has been a photo of himself smiling, beside baseball player Carlos Correa.

Meanwhile Khloe has been spending her days anxiously waiting for signs of recovery from her former husband, who has now awoken from his three-day coma.

Lamar was finally taken off a ventilator on Friday night after he collapsed on Tuesday during a drink and drug-fueled binge in a Nevada brothel.

He has now been able to get out of his bed, but has a long road to recovery ahead of him - with months of intensive rehabilitation expected as he slowly recovers his health.

Throughout Lamar's ordeal it has been Khloe who has been in charge of medical decisions, with the two not yet officially divorced despite their 2013 split.

Sources said Khloe has become a 'shell of herself' since Odom's collapse. Being his legal guardian - in charge of his medical decisions - has 'been very hard on her,' reports Us Weekly.
