And on Tuesday night Laverne Cox kept up with appearances as she arrived to a Remy Martin event in New York City.

The 31-year-old wore a glittery golden skirt and skintight top, looking every inch the glamorous television star that she is.

Also in attendance was Lucy Liu, who opted for a classic look in an LBD while wearing her dark hair down over her shoulders.

And Kelly Rutherford went monochrome in a mini-dress as she posed in open toe heels. 

The fashion award of the night may have gone to Kelly Bensimon, who showcased miles of leg in a tiny shirt dress.

Previously, Laverne has spoken about how, as she transitioned, she once yearned for facial feminization surgery but learnt to accept the way she looked to the point that she is glad she did not undergo the surgery.

She told Nylon after Caitlyn Jenner first debuted her transition: 'Years ago I wanted to have the kind of cosmetic facial feminization surgery that Caitlyn has made popular in terms of people’s understanding.

Earlier in October, Laverne marked Spirit Day, which encourages the world to take stand against bullying of young people in the LGBTQ community.

Posting a series of Instagram posts to raise awareness, the actress included a quote she once said to help those being bullied know they are more than what others says about them.

In the post she wrote: 'When kids were saying these awful things about me, I thought that was the truth of who I was.

'As an adult now, I have these people around me who are supportive and who are amazing and love me... what these people are saying about you is not who you are.'
