Travis Barker reveals he offered friends $1m to take his life after plane crash left him in agony

He was left with 65 per cent burns to his body after being involved in a tragic plane accident. 

And as Blink 182 drummer Travis Barker lay in a hospital bed facing months of difficult surgery, he felt he just couldn't cope - and offered friends $1 million to take his life.

The musician revealed his darkest time in a candid interview with Good Morning America, saying: 'I mean, [medical officials] had to take my phone out of my room because I was making these phone calls.

'I would call friends of mine and go: "You know, I’ll deposit a million dollars into whoever’s bank account. Like, I’m done."'

The 39-year-old nearly lost his life in the crash in 2008, and it the aftermath he had to have 27 surgeries.

The accident happened in Columbia, South Carolina, with Travis and Adam Goldstein (aka DJ AM) the only survivors.

Tragically Adam died from an overdose in 2009. 

The musician also revealed that he now feels he has to face his fear of flying for his children, Landon, 12, and Alabama, nine, as he does not want to hold them back from experiences. 

He revealed: 'I tell my children, when you are ready to fly I am ready to fly.

'So if my son came to me and said, ‘Dad, let's fly to Hawaii,’ or, ‘Dad, let's go to Australia,’ I'm in Australia.

'I don't want it to be a handicap for them, and I dread it.' 

Getting emotional as he talked about the repercussions of the accident on his children, saying: 'It was just hard for them to see me in the state that I was in, like, you know, they color in class and…everyone's drawing pictures of their family or what they did on the weekend and Landon's drawing a picture of a plane crashing.'

'I mean it was definitely something that, I mean, he was old enough to understand.'

Speaking candidly about the crash itself, Travis said it was 'hell' and recalled: 'The planes on fire, my hands are on fire...I ignite my whole body.

'I am soaked in jet fuel...We are out of the plane then the plane ignites.'

His fear of flying was understandably so great he missed Blink 182's tour of Australia in 2013. He now travels to overseas gigs by ship. 

Giving the interview in conjunction with promoting his new memoir - Can I Say: Living Large, Cheating Death, and Drums, Drums, Drums, Travis said he now lives for his children, and just wants to help them live a good life.

Speaking of his fear of flying he said: 'You know, I lose sleep over it, but if and when they say they want to do it, I'm going to do it.'
