'I don't think any of them have a plan right now:' Simon Cowell talks life after One Direction as he reveals band are 'tired' of gruelling schedule

They rocketed to stardom after finding fame on hit singing competition The X Factor in 2010.

And after five years of actively being in the spotlight, Simon Cowell has admitted that One Direction are in desperate need of a break after what he described as an 'unbelievable' five years.

Speaking to Good Morning Britain's Susanna Reid, the 56-year-old music mogul said of the chart-topping boy band: 'I think they've got to take some time off, I mean that schedule after five years was unbelievable, and it's not until they stop, that's when they're going to realise how tired they are.'

But while speculation has been rife regarding what the boys are going to do during their time apart, the Britain's Got Talent judge said that the group are yet to plan their next move.

Talking about their intentions following the split, Simon enthused: 'They're going to decide what they want to do next. I don't think any of them have got a plan right now.'

But Simon's comments come just a short while after it was claimed that 1D star Louis Tomlinson is already plotting his next career move - to join The X Factor judging panel.

The Midnight Memories crooner will appear on the show as a guest mentor during the judge's houses stage of the competition this weekend.

And while he has already attained mega stardom, performing to packed-out arenas the world over, Simon revealed that the 23-year-old was 'really, really nervous' ahead of his appearance.

In an interview with The Sun's Dan Wootton on Tuesday, Louis said: 'I've handed my CV to Simon for next year's show, so we will see how it goes.

'It's definitely something I am thinking about. I am the biggest X Factor fan and I would love to be there week in, week out and really give that level of passion. I think I would be a decent judge.'

The popstar said he felt 'honoured' to be asked to appear this year after asking 'non-stop' for the opportunity but added that he would love the chance to do more judging.
