'I am really thrilled': Simon Cowell can't contain his delight as it's announced he will replace Howard Stern as a judge on the next season of America's Got Talent

Simon Cowell has been announced as Howard Stern's replacement on the next season of America's Got Talent.

The 56-year-old music mogul has revealed he's accepted a role on the reality TV series, after the radio DJ walked away from the show in September.

Announcing the news on Twitter, The X Factor judge said: 'The good news is 'America's Got Talent' is back next year and the even better news is so am I!'

Releasing an official statement about his new role, Simon enthused: 'I am really thrilled to be joining ‘America’s Got Talent’ next season.

'What I love about this show is that it’s open to absolutely anyone. America has some fantastic talent just waiting to be discovered, and I would like that talent to come to our show, including any dogs who can sing'.

And it seems NBC Entertainment are equally pleased to have the show's creator make his AGT debut as Chairman Robert Greenblatt raved: 'Simon knows this format better than anyone and he’s been producing the show with us since the beginning, so we’re thrilled to have him to step in front of the camera and take his rightful place at the head of the judges’ panel.

'We welcome him to the on-screen NBC family,'

The London-born TV star has also revealed he first discussed the role years ago, but was unable to participate due to scheduling conflicts.

'We've been talking about it for a few years, funny enough, me and NBC. This year ... everything worked. So it was perfect.'

Simon, who has arguably softened since welcoming his first son Eric last year, has promised to bring back his 'Mr. Nasty' persona to the judging panel when it returns in 2016.

'I'm not going to lie to people when I think they're hopeless, I just couldn't do that!' Cowell told Us Weekly.

'But no, of course I'm not going to be rude for the sake of being rude. That would be ridiculous. I'll take it act by act.'

But Simon isn't the only change coming to the talent competition, as the music manager has also revealed that he is planning to move the show to Los Angeles, after shooting in New York for the past three years to fit around Stern.

Howie Mandel, Heidi Klum, and Mel B are expected to star alongside Simon on the judging panel, although the final line-up is still to be confirmed.
