But will it do as well as mine? Big screen success story Justin Bieber enjoys playful banter with Ed Sheeran as he supports the musician at premiere of his first concert film

Justin Bieber's Believe far exceeded expectations when the child star turned his pop career into a big screen success story in 2011.

So the 21-year-old was there to cheer on Ed Sheeran as he prepared to do the same thing with his debut concert film Jumpers For Goalposts.

Premiering the film in London's Leicester Square on Thursday night, Ed, 24, enjoyed some playful banter when his US counterpart made a surprise appearance on the 'Ed carpet.'

The goalposts just keep getting wider for international pop sensation Ed who looked chuffed to see his life be transformed for the big screen.

The Lego House singer turned the red carpet green to premiere Jumpers For Goalposts which opens for one weekend only.

He looked sharp in an Armani suit and matching waistcoat greeting fans that lined the streets to see him before delivering a performance for his eager admirers.

Though those waiting in the cold were more than a little surprised to see international pop sensation Justin at the movie premiere.

Justin was slightly more casual in appearance, pairing skater shoes with ripped jeans and a baseball cap.

His surprise appearance, during which he revealed something of a bromance with Ed, was kept all the more secretive when Justin arrived beneath a hood.

Previously, Justin's first film Never Say Never achieved an estimated grossing of $12.4M on its opening day from 3,105 theaters across America. It also grossed over $29M that weekend.

This weekend, Ed will appear in cinemas nationwide with a film that offers fans a 'birds-eye view' of life on tour for the musician.

It didn't seem to phase Ed on his big night because he was characteristically scruffy, adding some of his dressed down touches to the ensemble, forgoing smart shoes in favour of trainers and leaving his tie just slightly loosely knotted.

Ed left his signature red tresses messy on top and stayed faithful to his unshaven appearance for the memorable moment of glory.

It will feature a mixture of footage from the tour shows that accompanied his second album x this summer.

But it will climax with the chart toppers 80,000-strong performance at London's Wembley Arena in July this year, including the show and its prep.

Ed follows in the footsteps of Justin and One Direction who have previously turned their pop careers into big screen successes.

Discussing the title of his cinematic debut, Ed told Australia's PopSugar: 'It's a phrase that came up! We're always joking that we move the goalposts of what we're aiming for all the time, so it seemed apt for this.'

And describing the treat in store for his multitude of fans, he added: '(Fans will) get to see a bit more of everyone in my teams, who worked so hard to make it happen too. And me in various states of hangover as well!'

Dubbing Thursday 'premiere day' he said on Twitter: 'I'm so excited for you guys to see this movie. Check your local cinema listings wherever worldwide, it's only gonna be shown this weekend.'

The extra attention hasn't given Ed a big head either, because he described how he was kept on the ground, crediting his dad at the premiere.

'I have my dad. My dad always tells me when I'm being a d**k,' he said of his father John.

Even Game Of Thrones Maisie Williams' had high praise for the musician on the night, saying: 'I met him a year ago and I'm a mad supporter. So any way I can support him I will, but he's a megastar now so he doesn't need me.

'I love his music. He's stayed true to himself and never tried to be anything he's not. He's very real and honest and a beautiful artist in that sense.'

Olly Murs added: 'I love Ed. He's incredibly talented, he's unique and he's different. That's what makes him incredible. He's someone who has made a massive influence to someone like myself - and he's humble as well.'
