'He was the most generous person I've ever met': Kathie Lee Gifford honors husband Frank with children Cody and Cassidy at Broadcasting & Cable Hall of Fame awards

Kathie Lee Gifford was honored alongside her late husband Frank at the Broadcasting & Cable Hall of Fame awards in New York City Tuesday night.

Kathie's Today co-hosts including Hoda Kotb, Savannah Guthrie and Matt Lauer paid tribute to her illustrious television career at the ceremony.

Then, in an emotional speech, Frank was remembered by the couple's two children - Cody and Cassidy.

'It is a huge honor,' Gifford said on Today the following morning. 

'The best part of the evening was that they also honored Frank. I think it's the only hall of fame he is not yet in. Our children were there to receive it for their dad, so it was going to be difficult for me emotionally.'

Frank was a professional football player who went on to become an Emmy-winning sportscaster, hosting ABC's Monday Night Football for an astonishing 27 years. 

Cody and Cassidy accepted their father's lifetime achievement award, while Kathie Lee had her award presented to her by Kotb and Regis Philbin.

Upon taking the stage she joked; 'Thank God I got this award before Kelly Ripa. I mean, how embarrassing would that be?'

Kathie Lee then fought back tears as she gave a touching tribute to her husband, saying; 'I have to thank my incredible husband, who taught me so much, who was the most generous person I've ever met.'

'He gave me the two greatest gifts that any human being could have and that's their children. My children make me a better person every day.'

The celebration continued for Kathie Lee when Lauer crashed the start of her show with Kotb on Wednesday and presented her with flowers as confetti rained down from the ceiling.

Kathie Lee got her start in television when she appeared on Name That Tune in 1974 and since then has appeared on Live! with Regis and Kathie Lee and now Today, earning 11 Daytime Emmy nominations along the way and winning one in 2010 for her work on Today. 

Other honorees included Dr. Phil McGraw, Bob Iger, Ed Carroll of AMC, Mike Fries, Commissioner of Major League Soccer Don Garber, Chris Geraci, Lou LaTorre, Radio One CEO Alfred C. Liggins III, Philip J. Lombardo, Dave Lougee and Donna Speciale.
