And Heidi Klum proved that on Thursday when she turned up at New York's JFK airport carrying a very unusual handbag.

The quirky Gucci purse, which retails for about $3,400 - featured a giraffe eating a leaf and another, black and white animal, peaking out of a lush jungle backdrop.

The 42-year-old former Victoria's Secret Angel teamed her bag with a casual outfit, perfect for travelling.

She wore a long, knitted oatmeal cardigan with a shawl collar over a blouse in fall colours and skinny jeans tucked into sandy suede spike heeled booties.

With her long blonde hair cascading over her shoulders, she smiled as she walked across the concourse holding a large takeaway cup of coffee.

Oddly, the name written on the top of her Starbucks cup was not Heidi, but rather Jen. Either Heidi uses a pseudonym or her assistant picked up the coffee for her.

Klum was in the Big Apple to attend the Gabrielle's Angel Foundation Angel Ball on Monday, where she was one of several honourees.

The event is known for its celebrity guests and live entertainment and honours individuals who have made significant humanitarian and philanthropic contributions in support of cancer research.

On Wednesday the German-born celebrity was up bright and early for a bicycle ride.

The America's Next Top Model host shared a snap of her hands holding the handle of a bicycle with a view of what appeared to be the George Washington Bridge in the background.

She captioned it: 'Good morning NYC' and added an emoji kiss.

And on Thursday, she shared a video clip on Instagram letting her German viewers know that she will be casting for Germany's Next Top Model in Frankfurt, Munich and Berlin next month

Heidi appeared to be travelling without her children, Leni, 11, Henry, 10, eight-year-old Johan and six-year-old daughter Lou whom she shares with her pop star ex-husband Seal, 52.

She is currently seeing 29-year-old art dealer Vito Schnabel, and Seal is dating 38-year-old Australian singer and model Erica Packer.
