SPOILER ALERT: She's preaching! Cookie Lyon brazenly feuds with ex-husband Lucious during church service on Empire

Lucious Lyon and his fiery ex-wife Cookie continued their bitter feuding on Wednesday's episode of Empire even while sitting next to each other in church.

Their youngest son Hakeem Lyon also was kidnapped in broad daylight on at the end of the show as his brother Andre turned to religion to try to end the family fighting.

Andre throughout the show confessed his sins to his family as he sought a complete rebirth by getting baptized.

His father Lucious stunned everyone by showing up at church - despite earlier telling Andre that 'the only commandments I want followed here are mine' - but it merely sparked a continuation of his war with ex-wife Cookie.

Cookie was still seething that Lucious had sent two thugs to break into her own record company to plant surveillance devices there.

Hakeem made no secret of whose side he was on, telling Cookie to 'preach, Ma, preach' after she angrily told Lucious during the baptism service: 'Quit trying to turn us all against each other, turn us all into sinners like you.'

Lucious suffered a flashback of his mentally ill mother forcing his head under the water in a bath that was clearly sparked by Andre's baptism.

The memory divided the family even further as Lucious walked out of church at the key moment and understandably devastating Andre.

Hakeem was then seen after the ceremony jogging shirtless in the park - and getting grabbed by three men.

He was shoved into the back of a car with a teaser clip showing him also being tied up and later pistol-whipped.

After the showdown in church - and Cookie discovering Empire staff were behind the raid on her company - the blame was understandably pointed straight at Lucious.

But in the teaser for the next episode he emotionally insisted he would never do such a thing to his own son - and was seen frantically working with Cookie to try to get Hakeem back.

The escalation in violence had started when two girls had asked Tiana Brown to pose for a selfie - then stole her handbag after one of them pulled out a blade from her mouth.

The girls then wore masks in an online video laughing about the robbery, with a man in an Anonymous-style mask joining them and warning: 'Welcome to my kingdom, Lyon Dynasty. You want to chillax here, you gonna pay tax here.'

Then, while Cookie enjoyed a flirty late-night drink in her office with a concert promoter named Laz Delgado, they heard breaking glass and found two guys mid break-in.

'Drop it b**** - drop it,' Cookie screamed as she pulled out a handgun, with Delgado wrestling one of the others to the ground and using his own gun to force information from him.

'Lucious' slimy-ass lawyer,' Cookie said when one of the crooks said 'Thirsty' set them up, with Thirsty Rawlings also having approached Andre to try to spy on his mother.

Andre, meanwhile, was determined to make amends for his past and approached his pastor, Reverend LC Price, to baptize him.

'I'm committed Reverend, you tell me what I need to do and I'll do it,' he told him.

'First, clear conscience. Go to your loved ones, confess all your sins against them. Then, invite them to your baptism,' Reverend Price told him.

After Andre insisted that 'my family doesn't go to a church unless somebody's in a casket', the adviser told him: 'Maybe He wants you to be his shepherd. Maybe God wants you to lead them here. Maybe.'

Andre started confessing to his loved ones, telling Jamal and Hakeem: 'I wanted Empire so bad I was prepared to let you two kill each other so I'd be the only one left.'

And after telling Jamal that he set up a robbery at the studio that almost ended in him being shot dead, he begged: 'It was wrong of me, I was sick - I'm sorry.'

'I guess we all make mistakes, right?' Hakeem said, accepting the invitation to the baptism, which Jamal also attended despite initially saying he was 'not going to go and get shaded by the pastor just because I can't pray away the gay.'

'I want us to be whole again - I mean that with all of my heart,' Andre insisted to his brothers.

Lucious showed no interest in his son's confessions - even when he admitted he tried to kill himself in his dad's studio as he 'wanted to hurt you so bad'.

'You're asking me to come and watch somebody dunk you in tap water thinking that that's going to make all your sins go away?' Lucious asked him.

'There is no God. You just need to man the hell up,' Lucios told his eldest son.

And when Andre said his dad was 'testing me, it's obvious', Lucious snapped: 'I'm not testing you - I'm only telling you the only commandments I want followed here are mine. Check your faith at the door, son.'

Cookie also wanted none of his confessions - but for very different reasons. After he told her he was 'not a good person' and had 'done horrible things', she shushed Andre by stressing: 'So have I, Dre. But we are good people. God knows your heart - now keep your mouth shut.'

As Jamal, Hakeem and Cookie sat together in the front pew at church, they all assumed Lucious would be a no-show.

'Probably for the best,' Cookie smiled. 'That devil walk in here this whole place might catch fire.'

But he then pulled up at the last minute, leaving a shocked Cookie saying: 'Ooooh mention the Devil's name and he will walk right in.'

He said he was inspired by listening to Frank Gathers's daughter Freda rap about how much she missed him, saying: 'She reminded how important my presence is for you boys. I made this family.'

'This family that you spy on, rob, and beat down when you can't control us?' Cookie replied, handing him one of the surveillance devices he tried to place in her office and saying: 'Take this bug and stick it up yours.'

'When it comes to sinning Cookie you don't need nobody's help,' Lucious told her. 'And for your information, I don't ever, ever quit.'

Then, as Andre was dunked for his baptism, Lucious had his childhood flashback - and soon walked out of the church at the key moment, leaving Cookie alone blowing kisses at Andre as everyone stood and clapped.

Cookie and Lucious had earlier had another confrontation at the funeral home where they had to take responsibility for Vernon's ashes - with Lucious eventually running out and leaving them with his ex.

'Everyone we know, people that helped build us up, ended up in boxes that you don't even wanna claim,' Cookie had told him, adding: 'How we gonna keep our family safe?'

'I feel safe, you don't?,' Lucious replied. 'Sorry - that's what happens when you don't have me looking after you.'

Jamal, meanwhile, had trouble with his boyfriend Michael, centered mostly on his indecision as to whether or not to take him on tour with him as he worked with Ne-Yo, making a star guest appearance.

Just as Jamal resolved to take Michael with him he caught him at a party at his house with the wannabe-Warhol artist on his knees pleasuring him.
